Zelda Sheik
Zelda Sheik
We had the pleasure of doing this costume for an Anime Costume Con for a client. The character is from the Zelda video game "Sheik". This is the inspiration photo we worked from.
We started with the tunic constructed out of a heavy white twill. Additional pieces of matching blue spandex were cut and positioned on top of the tunic to be stitched in place. Then the rest of the design was drawn to scale to make sure that it fit in between the pieces of material. The pattern pieces were then converted into digital images for screen printing.
Then we began construction on the suit. The spandex pieces were shaped, cut, and then satin stitched onto the arms leaving under pockets for stuffing to be added to make contoured muscles. Here they are laid flat. Additional interfacing was added to the arm "brace" to make the material stick straight as it does in the inspirational photo.
Here is the picture of the finished tunic. The red eye and design accents have been screen printed and all the blue spandex has been stitched down with a satin stitch. The edges have been shredded and torn to look "mummy like" as in the photo. As well the high neck has been added with lots of extra material to pull up to cover the face or to leave piled around the neck.
Here is a side shot of the suit on a basic mannequin. You can see that the arms hold their own shape with the muscle padding. We also built a removable chest pack of muscles to help contour the back and front in the upper body. The tunic was finalized with loops for the bandages to weave in and secure the tunic down.
Finally we took a basic yellow wig and cut and styled it to match the character. Using a buckram base, the cap was constructed and covered in ace bandages and then sewn into place on top of the wig for the complete character look. and they might make me one here http://www.dreamcostumedesigns.com/zelda_sheik or sell it to me ^^
