This is what the holidays are all about... relaxing by the fireplace, cuddling under a warm quilt with someone you love. The two of you have been hanging out for hours, talking and laughing, and as the night winds down, you're feeling sweetly nostalgic. The candles you lit earlier are just liquidy pools of wax in their candleholders now, but the small flames still flicker, refusing to burn out. That's how you feel, too -- you're not ready for this evening of snuggly-wuggly perfection to end.
As your friend leans in close, wrapping a warm arm around you, you realize that all the best holiday songs are all about moments like this one. The air inside smells woodsy and fresh, like pine needles, but outside, it's been flurrying all evening. Now the snow is really coming down, in huge fluffy flakes. It looks like a winter wonderland out there, which is bad news for your visitor, because it wouldn't be safe to head home tonight. On second thought, that's very good news. Your parents have a rule -- NEVER drive in the snow -- and they'd never forgive you for sending a friend out in that mess. As you stand together near the front door, peering out at the snow, you notice a sprig of green leaves and berries just over your head. "Mistletoe," you whisper, planting a long slow kiss on those fire-warmed lips. "And you're stuck here...Bummer." You pull your oh-so-kissable honey back over to the blankets, and put another log on the fire. This night's not over yet.
