Revised weapon classification: Keep It Simple Stupid.
A weapon will fall into one of four categories: - Slash - Pierce - Blunt - Magic - Explosive
Slash-type weapons are like Swords, Sabers, and Claws. They attack the target in a swiping motion. These types of weapons have the ability to hit multiple targets per attack or hit one target multiple times per attack, but don't come with any other bonuses.
Pierce-type weapons play a little differently than Slash by providing a bonus against armor. These weapons, such as Arrows, Daggers, and Spears, can only hit one target one time, but will usually score a good critical hit.
Blunt-type weapons play more defensively. Hammers, Bats, and other bludgeon weaponry can only hit one target one time per attack, but have a chance to cause status effects and debuffs.
Magic-type weapons won't be used to attack physically. They'll channel Magic Spells to enhance their powers and effects. Some Magic Weapons could also augment the way certain spells behave. Some may come with built-in skills that can be used by the player.
Explosive-type weapons, like grenades and rockets, will deal massive damage to one or more targets. Some weapons may require a success roll, injuring the user upon a failure. Other weapons may hinder the user's speed, accuracy, or reaction time.
EDIT:
Perhaps another damage type could be added for explosive weapons. I had earlier thought they could be grouped into a sort of Magic / Fire, but then the Fire-type of Magic would be cluttered with these specific weapons. I've added Explosive-types into list for the time being. I may remove these for the opening play test because i know I want to include Alchemy as a class type, and Grenades would be perfect for that type.
