FMA: Rise of the Alchemists
-------------------------
Bree woke up to find herself at her desk surounded by alchemy books. "I must've fallen asleep reading again" she thought. She got up, showered, and then got dressed. "It's a good thing these bangages are water proof, otherwise I'd have to take them off" she thought. She put on boots to cover up the bandages on her legs and a long sleved shirt to cover up the ones on her arms. She packed her suit case and combed her hair over her right eye to hide that as well then headed out the door for the train station. "I just have a feeling I'll find some information in Central" she thought.
Trinity Woke up suddenly. God the nightmares again, the same thing over and over again. 'My Parents getting killed right in front of me. Each time I'm Closer and Closer. And Now...I killed them' She thought to herself. Her Mother and Father, murdered in front of her. "God I hate being an orphan when I'm an Alchemist"
Adrian sat hunched over a large mahoghony table in the state library nearly buried in alchemist journals and quickly drawn doodles of alchemic equations."Hmmm, I guess this is all I can get done today." He wasn't even sure what he was searching for or if he was searching for anything at all. The only thing he was sure of was that there was something he wanted, no, needed to know. The silver gleam of cold steel shown through where his right sleeve ended and his white glove began, automail. Was that it? Human transmutation? No, he wasn't nearly so foolish, Adrain had learned his lesson, he was lucky an arm was all he had lost.
Grumpy Nick trudged through Central to the hospital she worked at. She'd done lots of paperwork last night to keep her awake so she wouldn't have to face her nightmares again.
"God, I hate sleep," she muttered, kicking a rock down the street. Suddenly, she saw something out of the corner of her eye, glinting in the sunlight beautifully as it careened to the side.
It was a car and it was headed for her. All Nick could do was just stand there as the car hit her. She got lucky because the car had stopped at the very last possible second, and all she earned for her slowness was a broken foot. Gritting her teeth against the pain, she drew a transmutation circle using her own blood and her foot was soon cobbled back together for the time being. However, unable to control herself, she kicked the car with her other foot. And resulted in nearly breaking that appendage as well.
"Goddamnit, watch where you're going!!"
Ah, what a beautiful way to start your morning.
And little did she know that this was the least of her worries.
Bree got off the train at central. "The state Alchemist exam is today, I wounder if I should take it" she thought. She looked at the cloak: it was suposed to start in a few hours. She bagan to walk around aimlessly trying to decide what she should do.
Adrian lifted himself from the table then quickly and almost mechanically went about putting all the books and notes back in their proper places. "I'm done." He mumbled to the young woman at the front desk. He left the reception counter just as a wood and glass door silently opened across the foyer. A young woman in typical blue military uniform greeted him, holding the door open with her shoulder. “Good to see you, Mr. Ingramm. How are things?” Adrian continued his set course, “Not too bad, Lilly. Thanks.” He allowed the small talk to continue as they traveled down the short corridor and descended two flights of stairs. Out of courtesy and habit, he responded to her polite inquiries softly and nodded when it seemed appropriate during her cordial banter, though he processed and retained nothing of their exchange. As was custom by this time in the journey, he operated purely on memory and primitive instinct, automatic and void of purpose. “Mr. Ingramm?” Lilly’s voice held concern, breaking through to the distant responsive portion of his self. He glanced at the young woman as if just waking from a nap. "I'm a little distracted." She cocked her eyebrow. "I said the state Alchemist exam is today." He wasn't the least bit interested in this. "Um.... Alright?" He scoffed trying not to sound to rude. The young woman heaved a deep sigh, obviously irritated by this behavior. "You really have to work on your people skills, Mr. Ingramm." She boldly remarked. He was a tad taken aback. "Um, Lilly need I remind you of your--" She closed the door, cutting off his sentence. "rank."
Stuffing herself inside of a hospital coat and a disposable suit. Just another day in a monkey suit. Honestly, the clothes looked atrocious. They had BANANAS on them, for crying out loud!
"Morning, Drake," she sighed to the receptionist. He raised his gold-blonde head and smiled. Why was he always so optimistic? He worked in a death hall...
"Good morning, Nick. Hey, you going anywhere today?" he asked, brown eyes flashing flirtaciously. Nick rolled her eyes, looked to the ceiling and answered for the umpteenth time in about a week," No, but I've got better things to do than be in your oh-so wonderful presence. I don't think I'm that honored." Nick growled something else unintelligible that sounded like " grinding my forehead on an cheese grater..."As she walked down the hall sulkily, Drake called out,"Hey, Nick, um, come here for a moment." Drake had noticed something different about the usually humorous, tolerant teenager. Doing an about-face, Nick trudged back to the desk.
"What?" she drawled out. Drake looked kindly into her pale grey eyes. He leaned forward and said," Today's the State Achemist's test. You might...you might have a couple of them in today. Just telling you to be prepared." Blinking strangely, Nick nodded and left abruptly. She had important work to do.
Bree eventually stopped walking and sat on a bench. She sighed and looked up at the sky. "My brothers wanted to be state alchemists, but now they can't because they're gone" she thought. After a moment she stood up and started to head towards where the exam was being taken. "I might as well take it, for their sake" she thought.
Adrian couldn't help but go to the exams. He had to judge the new alchemists, see what his competition would be. Even if he should consider them allies he wasn't very fond of new people. And most of all new alchemists. New alchemists make mistakes, and mistakes in alchemy are a dangerous thing. He walked slowly examining all the young alchemists stepping off the train, his hands finding their way into his pockets as he did. He furrowed his brow in annoyance. "Fresh meat for the grinder."
Bree sat down ready for the written exam. "I can do this, I hope" she said. She took a deep breath. "I need to clam down otherwise I won't be able to focus" she thought. Some hair fell in front of her right eye but she didn't care, it wasn't like she had to see out of that eye or anything.
Adrian sat and watched the new candidates prepare for the written portion of the exam. "I remember this part." He thought to himself, looking back on his exam. He had always found the written portion as the easiest part. All the young men and women seemed so nervous as they set about their exams. "I wonder how many will pass this year...." Adrian asked aloud.
Bree sighed. "Well here it goes I guess" she thought. After she was done with the written part she set her pencil down. "Are they going to collect them or should I just give it to them?" she thought.
Nick banged her head into the wall. No one had called in that day, there were no broken bones, busted stomachs, shot-through feet, nada, zip, zilch, nein, NOTHING. It was as if Fate wanted her to walk out and GO to the Alchemist's test, just to watch.
"Where are going?" Drake asked as Nick blasted through the doors.
"The State Alchemist's Exam!" Drake smiled, but suddenly turned around, worried, and asked," WHY?!"
Nick kept going until she reached where they'd be holding the test. She flashed her badge that allowed her on Military grounds and saw that there were a lot of young people taking the test this year. She stood next to a boy with white hair who muttered something. Nick frowned at the comment and thought,'not many'
Nick was experiencing bad deja vu from this test. She'd been there when her parents had taken the test at the same time. Neither passed. Trying to follow in their footsteps, Nick had tried when she was 12...and failed by a hair. If she'd taken the test now, she would've passed with flying colors. But of course she wouldn't, of course. Finally realizing she'd gone to another place to bang her head, she asked the white haired dude," So, why are you here?"
Adrian rested his chin in his right hand and sighed. He watched as a young man turned in his exam only to be sent on his way. "Tch, they're ill prepared." He brashly remarked barely paying any mind to the question intended for him. Adrian sat a moment longer before looking over the stranger with mock interest then switching his focus back to the exam. "A better question would be. Why not?"
Realizing she'd probably picked the most anti-social person in the room to talk to, Nick replied," Because you could probably be doing something more interesting....like pulling off your fingernails...or butchering a hagfish..." Nick suddenly realized that her uniform she'd taken from the hospital were too small and didn't completely cover her deformed legs. Discreetly, she tried to cover them with her jacket by tying it backwards around her waist.
Suddenly, a flash of memory bombarded her.
'A younger, more idealistic Nick ran up the stairs of the Alchemist's building. She ran into the test room a little early, so she had to wait with another young alchemist.
Bored and in want of another friend, Nick turned and said to the alchemist next to her," So, where did you come from to get here?" The blonde alchemist looked at her sideways out of his gold eyes and said," I come from Reesembool. You?"
"Lucky. You get to live in the country. I'm from East City," Nick answered. "Nick Chorus. Who're you?"
"I'm Edward. Edward Elric." Nick's eyes lit up when she heard 'Elric'. "Hey, you're a friend of the family! Do you remember..."The two started to talk about reunions for a while and found out that both of them had met years ago. They soon had to leave for the test.
"Good luck!" Nick yelled.
Ed gave her a thumbs up. She never did notice his automail. He never noticed that her legs were horribly deformed. I guess it's equivalent exchange.'
Nick sighed with nostalgia. "Why'd you have to be an idiot and go?"
Bree saw a young man turn in his exam. "I guess I'll do the same then" she thought. She picked up her exam and made sure she had put her name on it, then turned it in.
Adrian closed his eyes slowly, standing to his feet while adjusting the goggles around his neck. "The next portion of the exam will be starting soon. A demonstration of ability if I remember correctly." He turned his back to the young lady. "Thanks for the chat. The names, Adrian J. Ingramm, the Hollow Hand Alchemist." The name, Ingramm, was familiar to anyone in the field of alchemy, but not from that of Adrian but his father, Frederick Ingramm. The son of a well known and respected alchemist turned homicidal maniac. "By the way... A new uniform might help cover your legs." Adrian remarked as he began walking to a large door on the other side of the room, leading outside where the alchemist would display their talents.
"Wonderful," Nick grumbled, taking off her coat and inspecting her legs. One of them was very skinny, hardly anything but wires of hard, unclenching muscle and the other had a large, knobbly wrap-around knee. It was corded strangely so that both the front and the back had the same muscles, giving it a knotted look.
Nick wondered what the son of Frederick Ingramm was doing here at the exams, but dismissed the thought. She knew better than to judge one by their parents.
She headed for the parade grounds where the alchemists would show their abilities. Only a few were left in the room and most of them were either turning in their papers or sitting there, stumped.
Outside, the alchemists had lined up and were starting.
"Let the games begin," Nick muttered, rubbing her hands together. She had the strange feeling she was going to be needed...
"Oh, Great just Great!" as Jake was running almost as if his life depends on it. "Just as Life couldn't get any worser" as Jake zick-zacked his way to the examination.
"Hope Grumpy Adrian wont kill me again!" as Jake finally reached the Academy . "Huh..huh...Oh God ! I seriously need to cut down on those chicken breasts " as Jake limped at the wall and quickly wears his State Alchemist Cloak. He was supposed to prepare papers for the written exam and also monitor the students .With a deep breath , thinking the exam isn't even started yet, he slightly opened the door and realised the exam is half-way finished and Jake also has this feeling that he was being watched.
Jake slowly turned his head and saw Adrian with his Fiery eyes glaring at his face.Jake suddenly felt a cold chill through his spine. " Um..Um.. Hi!"
---$#%@#$---
'I guess that means I passed' she thought. She walked outside with the other alchemists and watched a few start while she stood with the others trying to figure out what their demontratsion should be. 'Not using a transmutation circle should impress them a bit, but what exactly should I do?' she thought.

Edward woke up a bit later than he usually did. He peaked inside Al's room to see if he was up yet, but sure enough he was asleep as well. 'I'll let him sleep for a bit longer' he thought. Then he went down stairs and saw Noa making breakfast for them. "Good morning Noa, did you sleep well?" he asked.
Noa looked up at Ed and said, "Oh, um, yes I did, thank you." She continued to cook the scrambled eggs and sausage on the stove.
"Have you had any strange dreams lately? You seem... slightly distracted," Noa said softly. She placed all of the food into plates and put them on the small table in the middle of the kitchen.
"Have you figured out how to get out of here yet, to your world?" Noa asked nervously. She knew this was a touchy subject, but she was anxious to get out of Germany and soon. If they didn't, they'd have to move. Edward and Alfonse definitely looked like Germans, but Noa was sure if the Gestapo came to their house, they'd drag her away to some prison camp.
The Nazis didn't take kindly to the gypsies.
She shivered at the thought of being dragged out this safe haven the Elrics had created for her and again wished that Alfons was here to share it with her.
Edward sighed. "No I haven't, however I think Alphonse does" he said. He then looked at his automail arm that Winry had made for him. "I never got to tell her how I really felt about her..." he thought. Then he looked back at Noa. "Maybe this is what she means about me being a bit distracted" he thought.
Noa looked at Edward wistfully as he glanced at his automail forlornly. 'He's so sad. I wish I could heal him...' she thought sadly. Suddenly, she remembered that she could at least help him.
Every time she wanted to read someone's mind, she asked first, especially if she knew the person quite well.
"Edward, would you mind...?" she asked tenuously, holding out a hand to him.
"Umm..sure" he said. He placed his left hand in hers. 'I wonder what she'll see' he thought.
Noa grasped Edward's hand and soaked in all his troubles and his worries. She saw a girl. She was a beautiful blonde girl with an angelic face. Through his eyes, she was the most beautiful woman in the world, next to his mother and...someone else. Noa caught fragments of memories, of regrets. She could feel his heartache for her. And she caught a name. Winry. So this was who he was breaking his heart over. Sadly, she realized that on the inside, Edward was starting to die on the inside. His heartbreak seemed to be eating him.
She nodded sagely and said,"I see. I do not know how I can help, but if I can, I will." She looked straight into his gold eyes and let go of his hand.
"You have to let go, or else you won't ever heal. Go out with some friends. Remember her, but not sadly. Fondly. I have a feeling that maybe you will see her again, maybe in your dreams."
-Central-
Nick sighed at all of the alchemists taking the test. So far, she'd only had to fix someone's broken wrist. Somehow, she had the feeling that her intuition might have been wrong. Maybe she wasn't meant to be here. Then why did she feel like she was suppose to be here?
All of a sudden, there seemed to be a commotion out on the parade grounds.
"What's this?" Nick asked herself, walked ungainly towards the giant crowd.
"DOCTOR, GET A DOCTOR!" someone yelled. Her heart beating fast, Nick bludgeoned her way to the front of the crowd.
Bree was so lost in thought she hadn't noticed what was going on, that was until someone started yelling for a doctor. "What's going on? Did someone get hurt?!" she thought.
Lindsay walked out of the Library she had been in for hours to go see the so called 'new talent' for this year. Lindsay usually didnt care, but she had to see who would try out this year "Oh yeah, todays going to be great" She said in a kind of british accent that was her normal annoyed tone of voice.
"Oh no," Nick whispered as she got to the front of the massive crowd. There, on the ground, was an unconscious alchemist that was bleeding from a massive head wound. Castoff was sprayed everyone where on the beaten concrete.
"What happened?!" Nick asked as she started to work on the bleeding alchemist.
'My God, he doesn't even look like he's fifteen...' Nick thought frantically, trying to piece together what was necessary for this type of injury. Formulae were racing through her head as she listened to a proctor.
"He-he was building some kind of monolith or something and he...he misjudged how big it would get. It toppled and he was right underneath it..." the proctor explained, tripping over his words. Sighing, Nick knew that she couldn't use an alchemical circle, not unless it was fairly large. Or...maybe she could. She drew a smaller alchemical circle to make a bigger one by rutting the ground. She planned to use the flesh of a dead dog on the parade grounds to be the sacrifice for what she needed to put this kid's head back together. Light flew as the exchange was made.
But she didn't count for a couple of things.
The kid was already dead.
She'd put everyone in danger.
And she'd just broken the seal Colonel Mustang had created a few months before.
The Gate had inadvertantly been opened.
She had made her way outside and over to the commotion "i wouldnt do that he's already dead-" But she had said it to later and the gate had reopened "do you know what you have done?" she asked the girl.
Bree didn't know what to do. "The gate..." She had seen the gate once before when her brother attempted human transmutation, and now it had been reopened.
-berlin-
Edward sighed. "I know, it's just everey time I look at the auto mail she made for me I think of her" he said. He sat down at the table and hung his head. "Man I must be losing it" he thought. Then he could sense something wasn't right, and what ever it was it wasn't good.
-central-
Breathing hard, Nick understood that she'd just broken something she couldn't put back together.
"Do you know what you have done!?" said an alchemist next to her in a British accent.
"Yeah. I have an idea..." Nick panted. She saw that the gate had started to open. Nick suddenly panicked.
"EVERYONE, MOVE IT!!!" she shouted, pushing people away from the giant square opening in the ground. She only heard of the gate, but she'd been there when the Thule Society had bombed Central. She knew that this was a catastrophe.
"Help me get everyone out of the area and get the military!" she shouted to the alchemist with the British accent. She shoved people in an 'escape' direction and ran to the Gate, preparing to try and reseal it.
"If you can build it, you can destroy it..." she mumbled to herself.
-berlin-
Deep in the city of Berlin, there was a rumbling sound. In the middle of the Thule Society's old building was a reappearing Gate.
Farther out in town, Noa's glass of water was rumbling and rippling. She frowned and put an ear to the floor. She must've looked crazy, but she knew this strange feeling under her feet.
She bolted up and said to Edward,"Something is wrong. Can you feel it?"
Edward could only guess what was happening, but he knew he was right even though he didn't want to be. "The gate is reopening" he said.

Thank you to whoever bought my Aquarium Penguin! But I still need my Sakura tree to be sold I lowered the price after figuring out that 2% of 16,500=330. 16,500-330=16,170+39,400(money i got from penguin)=55,570G and i only need 50,000 so I lowered my price down to 11,000 because 2% of 11,000=220. 11,000-220=10,780+39,400=50,180. I thought that deal would be better for every one, I don't mind paying less then 16,000. I just need the Gold in order to get my dream Avi.
