Dread Borealis Quill
Dread rises up out of the ground, singing the grass. She sees her enemy in the clearing; her eyes narrow and flash scarlet. She bares her fangs and draws her sword, waiting for the blasted Slayer to attack.

Jaci quickened her pace as she caught the demon's foul scent. She leaped over the final shrub, breaking into the clearing. As Jaci caught sight of that which she hunted, she skidded to a stop, deeply exhaling.
Her staff pointed at her prey, she issued but one word of warning, "You...."
The blood in Jaci's body seemed to boil and her yellow eyes glowed bright. She slowly circled her opponent and twirled her staff in her hand.

Fed up with pacing, Jaci had just decided to attack when she caught a strong scent behind her. "Ah!" she hissed, "Just like foul thing you are to try and sneak up..." Her eyes flashed to and from each opponent's face while crouching back to a better position. Dammit! Where are the others?!
A hissed oath broke through Jaci's lips as she cursed her misfortune. She was out numbered and was now unsure of her plan. Her mind racing, Jaci scrambled to gather her thoughts.

Dread Borealis Quill
Dread's form began to change, her body flashing between near-transparency and full physical form. She opened her mouth to speak, but no sound came out. Her eyes blazed crimson, and she then vanished altogether. (This explains my absence. Sorry.)
Several hours later;
Dread reappeared where she had vanished before. Her skin was paler than before, her eyes, black. "My master felt the need to summon me," she snarled, "He said that I needed to be dealt with."
She looked at Jaci, and narrowed her empty eyes at the human. She raised her sword and lunged at the Slayer.

Yanked from her urgent re-planning, Jaci was momentarily distracted from the new-comer. Her brow creased in suspicion as she watched the form of the one called Dread disappear.
"What trickery is this?" Jaci demanded from the empty space before her. "Show yourself, Demon!" She jumped and started at each noise of the forest, anticipating an attack.
Then, the Dread-Demon reappeared. "My master felt the need to summon me," she snarled, "He said that I needed to be dealt with." Jaci winced as the wretched voice pierced her ears.
And suddenly, there was a blur of movement. Jaci barely had enough time to bring her staff about in a defensive position. "Ugh!" She cried out as the two warriors skidded back, leaving a massive trail of dust.
Pain...there was only pain as Jaci reached for her bearings. The blood blinded her. She was sure it was hers. Panting heavily she gripped her staff tightly, rage following to every limb, drowning the pain out. With a strangled cry, Jaci aimed the narrow staff end for the foul beast's throat.

Dread brought her sword up in a blur of motion, and struck the Slayer's staff with Kirian's razor edge. She grunted as the force of the colliding attacks shoved her back, farther into the ground. She let out a howl of rage and shot upwards, opening her wings. She gained altitude quickly, then plummeted back to the Earth, slashing at the Slayer called Jaci as she reached the ground.

Jaci grunted as she struggled to hold her own against the Demon's strength. The perspiration was stinging her wound. And then a moment of release. Jaci struggled to keep her balance as the force before her vanished in a mighty gust of wind.
The sound of the massive beating wings was her only warning. Jaci's eyes widened as she realized what was coming next. She leaped up into a nearby tree, trying to gain some sort of cover. But it was no use. The Demon's fierce sword sliced through the massive branches as if they were nothing. The force of the blow knocked Jaci to the ground, the trauma of the fight causing the blood to continuously gush from her head wound.
I'm losing too much blood...
Frantically, Jaci sped through the trees, in hopes of finding shelter long enough to doctor herself.

Dread Borealis Quill
Dread crouched low to the ground, listening for the human's breath or movement. Humans were so very loud. She chuckled darkly to herself as she examined Kirian's blade, which was dripping and smeared with blood. Dread did not bother to clean off the blade; it would absorb the human's life source and use it against the pathetic Slayer. Dread stood upright and began pacing the inside ring of the arena. She called out to the unseen human, "When did the Slayers decide that it was a good idea to begin recruiting children?" she asked in a mocking tone, "Why don't they train you cowards like the did in the old days?"

As Jaci cowered behind a large concave boulder, she brought out a small vial from her pouch. The Demon's words infuriated her, but she must keep quiet for the moment. Biting her lip, Jaci poured the abrasive liquid on her wound. All the will power in the world couldn't have stopped that small hiss from escaping her lips. The raging fire of the medicine was enough to make a grown man scream in terror.
Knowing her time was nearly up, she bandaged the injury and returned the vial to it's proper place. Her staff at the ready, Jaci stepped out to face her foe.
"A child I may be, but a coward I am not." With a terrifying growl she propelled herself over her shelter and aimed a well skilled blow at the Demon's spine. Demons may be physically stronger than humans, but Jaci knew their blood still ran beneath their skin. And so did their chii, dark as it was.

Dread's spine gave way with a loud snapping noise, and she fell to her knees. She let out a roar of pain and dropped her sword. She reached around to her back, and felt the injury. A bone was nearly protruding out of her skin. She snarled and pushed herself up; she hobbled over to a tree and leaned against it with her whole body's weight. With another snap, her vertebrate relocated itself. Dread shook herself violently and stalked back to where she had dropped Kirian. She picked it up, and held the flat of it's blade to her lips' she wiped a trickle of blood off of it with her tongue. "That is one, human," she growled, "Do not think that you will get anywhere without using that conniving trickery of yours."
She lunged at the girl, hurling the full force of her body at the Slayer's midsection, her blade pointed straight at the human's heart.

An involuntary, yet satisfied, smirk slowly spread across Jaci's face. She knew it was way too close to think optimistically, but catching such a terrifying creature off guard for the first time gave her a slight raise in confidence. On one point, the Demon spoke truth. Jaci wouldn't get anywhere without her conniving and twisted mind...and the thought made her laugh. "I believe there is your answer as to why I was recruited, Dread-Demon."
Jaci's retort seemed to irritate the creature and her eyes widened as she witnessed the rage fill its eyes. Her weak human body was no match for the force behind demon's fierce attack.
Jaci's staff fell limp at her side as its master keeled over in pain, gasping as blood merged with oxygen in her lungs. "You haven't won..." Jaci weakly fought the shadow that was taking her sight. "You won't be rid of me...so easily..." Jaci's lifeless body slumped in a pool of blood. But a determined spark remained buried in the soulless eyes.

Dread looked at the corpse without even a hint of remorse. "Stupid girl," she muttered.
She trudged away, scanning the arena for another opponent.

There was nothing....no sound, no light, no feeling. It made Jaci want to scream, but she couldn't. She knew she was dead, she was just in very obstinate denial. Jaci didn't know what would happen if she let go of her lifeless body. She was...dare she even think it...scared. This realization was the very thing that snapped Jaci out of it. She would not be remembered as scared, even to herself! Jaci released the corpse without a second glance.
At first, the experience was shocking. Jaci's spirit hovered above the battlefield, watching in horror as her comrade was now the one outnumbered. She reached toward the Demon attacking him...at least she thought she reached. Jaci would've normally seen her own hand before her at this point. It's obvious absence was, to say the least, disconcerting. She would have been nauseated if she'd had a stomach to turn.
I must find a new vessel...Jaci instinctively floated back to the only empty body on the field, hers. But it was too broken to be inhabited. If I could only reach for my pouch and fix myself! she thought with an exasperated sigh. No, not a sigh....It was a movement. Jaci turned. There was no one near her, and she was quite certain even if there was she wouldn't feel it. She experimented again, "Hello...?" There was no audible sound, but there was a movement again. Not something one would see, but more like the wind. It had to interfere with something to be felt. Jaci laughed delightedly, causing another little ghostly breeze. How wonderful! Her words were pure energy. Given any other circumstance, she would probably very much enjoy this form. But there were still demons to be dealt with. With this new talent, it seems I am still in this for the time being.
But now she faced a dilemma. Should Jaci try to communicate with her teammate and risk distracting him, or should she just go about distracting demons? With another sighed little flutter she pondered. There was no way of knowing how the Demons would react. They were part spiritual beings after all. They may see me even now... Jaci told herself, even though there was no sign of acknowledgment of her presence on either side. I'm just discovering this new form. The demons have been more spirit than mortal since the beginning... They probably don't even view me as a threat, she reasoned.
Jaci's mind was made up. She would search for the rest of her party. Surely one of them could fix her broken body. And if the demons could see her flee, they would think just that...that she was fleeing. This thought made Jaci laugh yet again, a harsh and determined laugh. As she prepared to leap up like she would do if she were human, there was an odd sensation as she floated, quite literally, through the trees. It was rather distracting and she wished to investigate more, but she must hurry to find the others before they reached the clearing. Glancing back once more at her drained corpse in the midst of the field, Jaci silently dashed into the forest in hopes of finding her comrades.

Meh...that's enough for now. The fight lasts for about 5 times longer than that but you get the idea.
Link to whole fight.
