The Love That Lingered In The Dark.
Footsteps awoke a woman who was taking a nap in her home. When she heard something, to which she sat up in her seat and listened. "I dreamt of you last night." A shy voice of a young man whispered in the dark as he slowly opened the living room door. His voice was just too calm and soothing to mouth the words. The words seemed so sincere as they escaped his heavenly lips in which he spoke with. "You did?" asked the young woman. "Mhm." he claimed. "What was that like?" she asked with somewhat of a chuckle in her voice as she was anticipating in not getting an answer in return. She never moved from where she sat, in the corner of a dim lighted room with a lovely planter and nightstand on either side of her. Her glasses rested nicely on her lap before she placed them on her face. "It wasn't just any ol' dream," the man moved silently into the room as he sat down in another seat across from her without even making a sound, "It was a fantasy." The dim light only reflected so much. Only half of their bodies shown by the light, the rest hidden by complete darkness. "A fantasy? I highly doubt that." The woman stood up from her seat instantly, not alarmed but a little shocked and annoyed. She raised her hand to her face to take off her glasses. As she kept her eyes on the man sitting across from her, she folded the glasses nicely, and flickered her wrist towards him, thinking. "After all this time. After all we've been through, After all this neglect and times you've vanished for days. You come home unexpected to tell me you dreamt of me? And not only dreamt, but had some sort of Fantasy?" She rolled her eyes and moved a few foot steps towards him. "How do you suppose you'd explain yourself? You leave, then show up? I doubt your here for forgiveness 'hun." she spoke flatly. "That's not the reason." he said. "I've been thinking." He stood up and moved towards her. She hesitated but stayed where she stood. "I was thinking about all the wrongs I've done." He looked at her with a serious face, but relaxed and compassionate. "I know I've done things in the past that have really upset you.." he was interrupted by a Humph! ".. Please don't be too bitter. But, please listen." he cleared his voice as he rested his hands on her shoulders and pushed down slightly to indicate he wanted to sit. She sat on the love seat without second thoughts. "Fine. Speak." She said half-heartedly. "Look. I know I've done things in the past that really upset you, but I want to fix it all. I never liked running away like I have been. But I felt there was noway out." The woman was about to speak but he pressed his index finger to her lips to let her know it's not her turn to speak, yet. "I've loved you ever since I can remember. And me running off is inexcusable. I hope in time we can rebuild what we once had. If your willing of course. I understand I damaged a part of your heart.. that's going to take a while to re-patch. I just want you to know. I never cheated on you, and I never even once took the opportunity to." he paused to read her face. "I just hope you'll believe me." The woman looked at him blankly, yet a flicker of emotion swept across her face as it appeared her eyes were filling up with tears. A soft sniffle came from her before she looked down and lightly tapped her wedding ring. ".. I was scared you left because of something I did, or there was another woman in the mists.." She lowered her head more. "No, It was nothing you did sweetheart. It was me, just having cold feet. And no, there was no other woman. The only woman I'll ever need and forever be eternally happy with, is you." his voice was soothing as he placed his index finger under her eye to catch a tear from falling. "I have so many questions, yet I'm so mixed with emotions," she explained, "I feel the need to lash out at you, throw things, ask you 'why' a bunch of times. I was so sure.. that you had another woman in your life, and you put me in second place." The woman took off her wedding ring and held it in front of his face. "There were so many.. many times I wanted to give up on you, throw this away and pretend you never existed. But something in my heart told me, never to give up. Never let the worst outcome form. There was something still there with us. I just didn't know what it was. But you came back, so I must be grateful for at least that. Right? I know I must be a bad person for wanting to pretend you never existed in this world.. because if you never did, I wouldn't have fallen so in love with you, now would I?" She tilted her head to the side slightly, as she looked down she slid the ring back onto her finger. "Your not a bad person," he moved closer to hug her, "your just a woman who had her heart mistreated and broken by a foolish man. I apologize so much for all you had to deal with." They both hugged for a while before they spoke again. "I don't want to stay mad at you. I love you too much," the woman squeezed tightly in a hug, "If I went almost a whole month without you, I couldn't possibly go a whole lifetime without you. I was a train wreck, and I was bound to derail sooner or later." The man gently let go of her to look at her. He smiled as he placed both hands on either side of her face and looked directly into her deep greenish-blue eyes. "If you can go almost a month without me, your stronger than any woman I've ever known. Just proves that when true love is out there, love can bring that hope together, even if it's just hanging on by a single thread. Not a day went by when I was happy without you. I was miserable. Your the only reason why I'm still walking on this earth. My life would be meaningless if you never walked into it." He kissed her lips softly as he moved for a hug again. To hold her close, which he missed so much. "Can we work on our relationship..?" she whispered, clinging tightly to him. He let out a soft laugh, "Yes, we can."
