Dear Journal,
I'm going to try and work out how magic works. The energy that is emenated from a person's soul is what is used to take control of the magic that exists in the air. A person's aura is the visible amount of magic around a person's body that is the amount of magic they can control. Auras are not visible to everyone.
When taking control of magic, you draw magic into your being and take the six elements that are in magic, water, fire, earth, air, light, dark, taking the element you wish to use and adding your own inner energy to dominat that certain element over the others.
In barrier spells you dominate the a certain element over the others, for example earth, and you use the magic to creat a wall of soil and stone around you or the object that you wish to create the barrier around and use pure magic, or magic that has not had an element dominated, to hold the magic in place. The one who cast the spell can simply banish the pure magic and the spell will collapse, but for someone who wishes to destroy the barrier spell of an opponent must find the "knot" that they used to secure the spell and untie it which is a long and tiresome process.
Any one person has the potential to control all the magic in the world, but it is tiresome on the spirit to control magic. That is why a wiry little girl with no muscle could wield more magic than a big, buff, body-builder man. It wears even more on the soul when you don't have a "second medium". the wielder is the first medium and and inanimate object that the wielder uses to take the full brunt of the magic's passing through them. The second medium must be sturdy enough to withstand the force of the magic entering and leaving it. This is why if you send fire magic through a random stick you picked up, once the spell has been cast the stick with fall from your hand as a pile of ash. Staves are the most commonly used second medium and warrior, or black, mages tend to lean toward weapons that have some steel on the end if they're not completely made of steel.
If there is anything that I've forgotten to explain or you're curious about, PM me and I'll make another that tries to explain it. xd
