I heard her screaming again
I knew exactly what was going on
Dad had been drinking again
And me and mom always got the bad end
One night i decided I couldn't take it anymore
So I packed a few sets of clothes
And I climbed out my window
And I ran off into the darkness
Of that cold depressing night
Teary eyed
I was holding tight
Onto my dreams and my pride
I kept running and running
And I wouldn't look back
Cuz I can never return to that life
Cuz I ran much too far
Into the darkness of the night
It's one year later
And I've found a new family
That takes care of me
I'm in a new town, a new school
A new everything
I have a new friend
And one day she came to me
She told me something was going on
Her father's been drinking again
So I told her my story
And told her exactly what she had to do
And she ran off into the darkness
Of this cold depressing night

And she won't look back

She came to say goodbye

And made me realize
That she meant so much more to me
Than everything else in my life
