She hides behind a smile and a song

she hides the one who's hurting her

behind her eyes the pain is pushed away

no one can read her

no one can see that she wants to cry

she holds everything inside

trying not to let the tears give her away

there is no place that she's safe

her heart betrays her

she wants to get out but is more afraid

of what the world can do

than of the rage that comes through at night

behind closed doors a child hides

but she cannot protect her from the hand

that controls her every move

the tears wont fall she wont let them

the bruises are not seen

but she feels like their eyes can tell

she pulls away from everyone

she runs to the dark away from help

crying over her dead child

she can't find a way out

she's gone too far

she's in too deep

the only way out has been taken away

all the rage is on her now

she lifts her head to try and cry

but now the tears refuse to come

the bruises show but the door is closed

in that darkness the rage returns

and one night she never awakens
