This Journal is Guaranteed to be 100% Random!... Sometimes.
This is the third chapter of my story: The Unreality. I might post it in the forums, but for now, I guess my journal works, too. Plus, there's a few parts that I think need revisions.

I was instantly plunged into a world of darkness. In every direction, all I could see was the pitch blackness of space. I couldn’t feel anything under me, but I knew I was sitting, and I still had my body and mind. I figured something had made me temporarily blind, but suddenly, a bright light in the distance appeared ahead of me. Speechless, I gazed at the light. There was something mesmerizing about it. In the blink of an eye, the light began pulsating, breaking up the darkness, and flashed into one giant, bright light surrounding me. I heard what sounded like glass shattering, and as I covered my head for protection, I could see shards of darkness plummeting to the floor, which seemed to have just appeared.

Confused, I slowly lifted my head. The light wasn’t nearly as bright as before. I frantically looked around for Nishio and Cecily’s body, but I was alone in a vast, empty, white room. “Nishio!” I called. I became frozen. I couldn’t hear my voice. “Jacob, you idiot!” I shouted. The room was still silent. No matter how much I opened my mouth, or how loud I shouted, I couldn’t hear my voice. It seemed to have disappeared, along with something I already missed: sense.

Although I couldn’t talk, I could move. I stood up, looking around in case something else was about to happen. Just as quickly as the room had turned white, color began flooding onto the floor beneath me. I jumped with surprise at first, until I realized that I was now standing in the tall grass of the field. I tilted my head up to see various shades of blue being splashed against the sky like watercolor paints, which had replaced the ceiling. Everything seemed to have gone back to normal. I figured all of this had been a hallucination, dream, or the result of my overwhelming guilt.

“Wow,” I sighed, exhausted. My voice had returned, but it echoed for nearly a minute. I waited for the echo to end, then tried to think everything through. Something still wasn’t right.

“Hello, Kay,” a nearby voice said. I instantly recognized the voice as Jacob’s, but the same eerie echo rang throughout the landscape. I backed away, silently begging whoever was responsible for this to make it end.

Without thinking, I began walking forward. I wanted to stop and run in the opposite direction, but something was controlling me. Against my will, I raised my arm, and I noticed that one of Nishio’s knives seemed to have magically appeared in my hand. For the first time, I saw fear on Jacob’s face. It was like he wanted to kill me, but he couldn’t even move. Not sure what to think, I watched as the knife in my hand struck Jacob’s chest and sent him falling to the ground, with the same lifeless expression that I had seen on Cecily. The horror was agonizing, even with the knowledge of what Jacob had done.

“You stay on my good side, and I’ll stay on yours.” The words made my body tremble, now that I had regained control of it. I looked down once more and noticed that Jacob’s body had disappeared.

I couldn’t take this anymore. It had to be a dream, nothing else could explain it. One moment I was beside Cecily’s body, and the next, I somehow appeared here. It didn’t add up. It didn’t seem possible.

In desperation, I sat down on the damp grass and shut my eyes as tightly as I could, hoping that when I opened them, I would wake up in the real nightmare that was my life. After all, I always used this strategy whenever I wanted to wake up from a dream. It would be at the point when it seemed like I had regained consciousness, but I was still in the dream. If this really was a dream, I was definitely at that point.

I kept my eyes closed for a few minutes. I just needed to relax. I wasn’t nearly as worried about this strange world I was in as the fact that my brother was probably trying to wake me up at the same time he was hoping that Cecily would somehow spring back to life.

Finally, afraid of what I might see, I opened my eyes and looked up to see a black-haired girl with abnormally pale skin. Out of shock, I backed away and tried to stand up, but I ended up tripping and clumsily falling to the ground. I could hear a quiet chuckle behind me. I was slightly embarrassed, even though I knew this person was just a product of my imagination.

“You’re one of the strangest people I’ve ever seen,” she said, her quiet chuckle now pronounced laughter.

I sat up with uncertainty. She seemed so real. Her straight, black hair hung freely to her chin. She wore a black dress, which stood out against her nearly pure white complexion. It took me a moment to summon the courage to speak. “Yes, well, I would say the same, but I’ve never seen you before,” I stammered, a hint of sarcasm in my voice. She seemed to notice.

“Right,” she replied with a nod, a large grin appearing on her face. “The expressions on people’s faces when they come here is hilarious. Yours is one of the funniest.” Her face became thoughtful, as if she had forgotten something. “Sorry. I suppose I should give you the complete introduction, but I’ll just start with my name. I’m Mai.”

I stood up and shook her hand. I remembered that the last time I had shaken someone’s hand, they died five minutes later. I pulled my hand away from hers and turned away.

“Well, nice meeting you, Kay,” Mai scoffed.

I looked back at her. I sighed. “Sorry,” I apologized. “Just tell me one thing.”

Her eyes grew wide with curiosity. I seemed to fascinate her. “Yes?” she said softly.

I wondered how she would react to my question. “In this… whatever this is… would it be possible to kill myself?”
