I was going to write about a lovely poem i wrote in class today, but since it pertained to a certain person i need to revise it first.

His smooth tongue
spouts lies
His deep gaze
triggers phantoms of the heart.
He touches my
deepest desire
He's like an addictive drug
in human form
He catches me unawares
claims he understands
and knows me,
inreality he doesn't.
His quick tongue
and creative brain,
raw from his past,
captures my attention,
caresses the deepest
parts of my soul.
He sets my spirit free,
or so I thought.
I am really a caged bird,
unable to spread my wings.
What i once thought to be
a dream, too perfect to be true,
was just that:
a dream.
He no longer entices me
as he puts me down
again and again
and again to gain control.
Nobody controls me,
Nobody has succeeded.
He shouldn't have to
feel powerful and superior.
His words sweetly tell me
"You are my equal", but
we both know he does not see me that way.
He was just a dream,
It is time I let him go.
I cannot help him.
I cannot be his savior.
I cannot try any longer
for someone who doesn't want my help.
I put mysoul into everything,
sacrificed my very being until
i was nothing more than a shell,
broken and dissheveled.
He is a sad being,
unable to see past his ego.
And he let slip though his fingers,
the most precious gift life has given him.
I was the caged bird,
the bird that could not sing.
I choose now to forever be
the Phoenix of my dreams.
