According to the Mayans. They couldn't calculate their calandars any further than that, and so prophesied that the would would come to an end in that year.
However, for the Mayans, The 'World Ending' was just an ending of a cycle, after which, a new one would begin, thus contiuing the world.

The Bible states, however, that there would be the election of the Anti-Christ, who would bring about a seven year bout of peace. He would then commence in warring with other holy tribes, thus ending the world as we know it, presumably in a nuclear haulocaust, while the true beleivers would simply just...dissappear, and acsend into Heaven.

I beleive, however, that since the world was supposed to have ended many, many times before this, that the world ending is just a metaphor for the world AS WE KNOW IT to be ending, thus ushering in a new age of thinking, technology, science, art, and human prosperity and/or downfall to a new subspecies of human like that of the cave-man.

Or, possibly, it could end like in the book The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and simply be destroyed by aliens to make way for an intergalactic bypass.


1. Inevitable deforestation, leading to more hazardous greenhouse gasses, which, in turn, leads to the death of all humanity by way of crushing natural disasters as the world tries to right itself.

2. Man buries itself in pollution, thus creating too much leachate for the earth to cope with, Which then leads to (again) more hazardous greenhouse gasses, which is not helped any by deforestation, of course leading to the destrucion of all mankind through mind-blowing natural disasters as the world tries to right itself.

3. And then, there's the all popular asteroid theory, which states that in another billion years or so, the earth will be hit by an asteroid the size of a small planet, which will, in turn, demolish it, thereby erasing all human existance in one fell swoop.

4. Lastly, and still in the cosmic feild, in about three trillion years, our small sun will burn out, thereby killing us all in an arctic freeze that will drive the smart ones underground near the earth's core, and when there is finally no more food left, we shall starve to death.

Lots of ways the world could end, actually. If you think about it.
