Chapter Two:
The New World
Every thing was black. It felt as if Raguna’s mind was floating dead through the abyss. “Am I dead?” Raguna thought. If he was then he thought it extremely unfair. Especially since he still didn’t understand exactly what had just happened moments ago. All of a sudden Raguna saw a small light in the distance. He started to wander towards it. It got bigger and bigger until…
“Whoa!” Raguna exclaimed as he woke with a start. He was still slightly groggy, but still realized that he was in some building that he had never been in before in his life. As he looked around, he realized that he was in some sort of lecture hall, and more noticeable was the fact that seated in all of the chairs in the giant circular building was every person who had been at the giveaway the day before, all asleep or just waking up like himself. “Weird” Raguna thought to himself. He noticed that he was wearing his gloves, as he had been before he fell through that hole, but that the sword charms that had been secured on them were gone. Upon further inspection, he found them in his pocket. He was about to take them out and reattach them, when suddenly, simultaneously, to his right and left two voices shouted out.,
“Where are we?!?!?!” It seemed to be that Arisa and Tala had shown up in the chairs to either side of him. He hadn’t noticed, seeing as how he had looked forward and not to his immediate right or left, or behind him for that matter. Raguna, before answering their question, it being pointless anyways seeing as how he had no clue himself, turned and saw that the entire building was full, behind him as well. Some people he recognized from school, but there were also a lot of older teens too, as well as a few middle schoolers. Before having time to speculate an answer to Arisa and Tala’s question, a loud voice interrupted his train of thought.
“Hey everyone, listen up!!!!!” Came a female voice from the center area of the lecture hall, a few feet in front of and below Raguna, seeing as how there were several rows of seats. This lady had apparently walked in while Raguna was thinking. She had succeeded in waking every one up, anyways. This woman, not looking older than 17 herself, had pitch black, extremely spiky hair. Her eyes seemed to be a dark blue color which fit her somewhat serious face. Her attire consisted of a simple, yet exaggerated school teachers dress. It went down the length of her legs, and had short sleeves with ruffles on them. Also, around her waist, was a giant ribbon, tied into a huge bow behind her back. This look was ironic on the woman because her head and outfit did not match at all. She had a stern face, with a calm dress. It was not long before she spoke again, apparently into some sort of head set to project the sound, “I will be your teacher today, and today only, got it? Anyways, welcome to Kei Konguki, your new world!”
This nonsense sent gasps, and laughing through out the crowd. A new world? Who would believe that? That was stuff that only happened in fairy tales. However, despite this, there was a presence of tension throughout the teenagers. None of them, could deny that weird sensation and blackout that they had all simultaneously experienced, and also, none could logically explain how a whole school of people had randomly turned up in this room. Then one kid, he was in a few of Arisa’s classes spoke up, voicing what every one was thinking. “But that’s impossible. There is no such thing as “other worlds”.”
This seemed to set the woman, or rather girl as she was still a teenager herself, off. “Oh Yeah?” She yelled, not using the headset anymore. She reached into her pocket and pulled out something small, what looked like a mini shurikan and shoved it onto what looked like a bracelet on her wrist. She was enveloped in a flash of light. Suddenly, three full sized shurikan flew of the light and towards the boy. Before he had time to react, the three shurikan hit his baseball hat that he had been wearing, and stuck it to the wall behind him. All eyes were on the place where the shurikan had come from. The light was starting to fade and the woman was standing there, but something was different about her. The whole right side of her body had turned into some sort of robotic device. The right side of her head was seemingly made of metal now, with some sort of device over her right eye. It looked kind of like a helmet due to the fact that her hair just stopped at the point where it went metal. The section where the metal and skin combined was perfectly blended. There wasn’t a line where they intersected. Moving on down, the right side of her dress had turned into a body tight metal suit of sorts, being completely sleek with a strange line pattern along her side. This part also seemed to blend perfectly, the metal turning flawlessly to dress and ribbon as it traveled to the left of her body. There was now a rectangular slot on her palm which was pointed at the boy. The strange thing was that, though every other feature had changed, her bracelet was still there. It was now metal, but still the same bracelet. “Now as I was saying, welcome to Kei Konguki!” The woman continued, now in a cheery tone.
The boy, who was sitting just to the right of Tala was now wide eyed. He looked from the woman, to his hat, now with three holes in it, and back to the woman. “H-how did you do that?” He asked nervously. Tala also was sort of freaked out, one of the shurikan flying so close by him.
“Well, you see boy, Kei Konguki is a world that has technology far beyond that of Earth. Not electricity concerned. Earth has most of that. Our people are just now figuring out how to do that… However, Kei Konguki possesses far superior weaponry. As I have just demonstrated, our world is able to make clothes into dangerous weapons.” She paused for a moment to get the crowd’s reaction. They were amazed. Teenagers already have a somewhat violent mind set, so when they learned that their things that they just got could become weapons, they were ecstatic. Even Raguna’s face lit up. This seemed just like the kind of excitement he was looking for. A new world, new concepts, and new people. Finally, some thing NEW. Some people started messing around with their things, trying to get them to transform. Raguna, Arisa, Tala, and several other individuals who had self control sat and waited for the woman to finish her explanation. Everyone had forgotten about the charms, thinking of them as unimportant. After a few minutes, the woman spoke up again. “Will you idiots SHUT THE HELL UP?” This quieted the room again.
“Ah hm,” the woman cleared her throat. “Now then, now that you’re paying attention, allow me to explain this world to you and why you’re here, before anything else.” Her voice was once again calm. “For starters, my name is Kegumi. Any and all questions may be asked at the end. If anyone speaks up,” She looked at the boy with the baseball hat “Then I will be shedding some spirit blood.” The crowd started murmuring, but fell silent at a nasty glance from Kegumi. “Ok, first to give you a map of Kei Konguki so that you know what you’re dealing with…” She said. Suddenly, she kicked the floor as hard as she could.
A trapdoor opened in the floor and a cube of sorts raised out of it. It floated in mid air, while the door closed, and then landed on unfolded legs. It looked like a four-sided chalkboard. “Ok, so that I don’t have to do everything four times so that all of you can see it,” as the room was a circle “I am going to use this special chalkboard that will display what I do to all of you.” The woman then turned around and started drawing on the board. She was on the side that Raguna was sitting, so he couldn’t see what it was until she stepped back. What she had drawn was a map of sorts. It was mainly a giant land mass, with ocean in the upper right hand side, and an island in these waters.
“This is what we know of Kei Konguki. If there are civilizations past what is drawn here, then they are unknown to us, due to the fact that many explorers and map makers have tried to venture to new places and never came back. Ok, so, our world is divided into sections based upon the ten elements of our world. These elements are; Fire, Water, Ice, Nature, Lightning, Wind, Earth, Metal, Light, and Darkness. Each of our main cities represents one of these elements, save for Light and Darkness because it was too hard to pick a location, and gather enough magical energy of either of those elements in one place, so instead two temples were built in the east and west of the desert in the center of Kei Konguki to represent them.” Kegumi ranted. She took a short breath before continuing “ The city on the island is called Quaxora, city of Water. Then there’s Lyte Siec, city of Ice in the south west. Pyeg, city of Earth lies to the north east. Tuvallney is the Nature city in the south east. In the east is Slel Taineet, city of Steel, to the north is Ginen, city of Lightning, to the east is Yindew, city of Wind. South of the desert is Refime Mt. And then there is Mesellicety. It is known as the city of unity, as it is said to be made of all the elements. Or, in other words it is the blandest of them all.” Kegumi explained, still ranting.
Raguna hated lectures. He took enough in to et the gist, but then sort of spaced off. This was boring. Boring is what he wanted to get away from. “Hopefully she gets to the good part soon” He thought.
Kegumi was soon ready to continue on, after catching her breath again. “So, I know many of you are wondering how or why you are here. Your answer is Kazuki, Kei Konguki’s current dictator.” She said the last part with such hate that it was recognizable in her voice. She honestly looked like she wanted to spit on something, but restrained herself. “He was going to use you as his slaves and you would have been trapped here forever, had not I and the others of the rebellion redirected the warp cycle and…” Kegumi started mumbling to herself at the end. “Anyways, that didn’t happen. However, that doesn’t mean that we can just send you back now. We don’t have that kind of magical power. In fact, how Kazuki was able to create a warp for this many people is amazing, even more so in between worlds. Anyways, Kazuki will probably cook up some sort of sick game for you people to compete in in order to earn a ticket back to get a ticket back. However, there is a loop around this like with everything. Seeing as how we disrupted the warp cycle, the connection was weakened. Due to our scientists logical opinion, for every month you are here, you will transport back to your world for a weak. This will, of course, create some abnormalities that we have yet to fully grasp. In other words, you will all have time at home to keep up in school, and in your normal lives. Each month long period spent here will count as an hour on Earth. I think that that is all there is to mention about time issues for now…” Kegumi concluded.
Kegumi was about to start on about the charms, and safety and use of them, when suddenly a messenger came running in. He approached Kegumi, bowed and ran off. He seemed to give her some sort of letter in the process. Kegumi quickly skimmed over the letter and gasped. Apparently some new twist had occurred. “Now something’s starting to happen again.” Raguna thought.
Kegumi looked up with a worried look on her face and cleared her throat. ”Um, well, it seems that there has been a sudden change of plans. As was predicted, Kazuki has devised a wicked plan. SKREW HIM!!!!” she screamed. After venting, Kegumi was calm enough to explain to them what was going on. “Apparently, the only way that he will let you permanently return home, he is requesting that every single Kerubi in the world be collected! Not only are they ancient treasures, but they’re scattered all over! Besides, having them all in his possession would give him unmatchable power! We can’t allow that to happen. Besides, He said that “Only those that survive” will be freed from this bond. What is that supposed to mean. Augh!” Kegumi was speaking in quick frantic bursts.
Raguna had had enough of this. Now that his life was being put on the line, he needed to take control of this. So he bravely spoke up, as the boy with the shredded hat did. “So, what are these Kerubi things?” he asked simply. Hopefully the answer would be simple as well. Of course not.
“Kerubi are the jewels of old, having been said to have been created from pure magic itself, before it is turned into an element. Apparently they are supposed to give people a power boost when gathered in numbers, and there are supposedly a couple thousand of them total. Not only would it take forever to find them all, but afterwards he would be immensely powerful. Ugh, well I guess we have no choice. But this is really inconvenient. Damn you Kazuki!” Kegumi yelled. She calmed herself down, and decided to finally explain the most important topic of all, and what would allow them to survive. “Well, we can deal with that later. For now, I must explain to you about your charms. Now before I say anything, you must promise not to do anything until I’m done,” She paused while mumbled “Okay” s came from the crowd. “Ok, so, the key to weaponry here is the charms. By attaching them to your magical clothing, a reaction sets off in your body and transforms part of your body to fit the description as specified by the charm. There are four types of charms. Offensive, defensive, magical, and transformation. Offensive charms will make some sort of weapon for you to use, like the shurikan one that I used earlier. Defensive charms make some sort of shield for a particular object, be it you, someone else, an entire area, or a specific object. Magical charms create a spell book for the user to use to cast spells with. There are magic charms for each of the ten elements. Spells will start off weak, but you will be able to use better spells as you become more proficient with the charm. It does, by the way, go by the specific charm, not by element. If, say, you were good with one wind charm, you would not be just as good with a different wind charm. Then the last, and most dangerous type, transformation charms. They are imbued with such strong magic that when you use them, you either transform into a completely different form, or into a mix between your normal form and the new one. Luckily, it seems that none of you received any of these types of charms. They are better used with experienced warriors. There are also severe penalties to overuse of these charms. The high magical properties of these charms will permanently effect your body if used too often, or for too long. Think of transformation charms as having “stages” that you go through, until you reach the final product of the transformation. Each transformation has ten stages. Ok, now using weeks as building blocks, if you use transformation charms ten times in one week, then you will permanently be stuck in stage one. This means, that after you deactivate the charm, then part of you will still be transformed, permanently. Therefore using them one-hundred times with in ten weeks will leave you permanently be transformed. You will have lost your personal aura, that makes you unique, and have it replaced with that of your transform subjects. And, as the final consequence, after reaching stage ten, your diamond, which is the way of using new charms, and deactivating old ones, disappeared. You will therefore never be able to transform back, or use new charms ever again. Apparently there are few who can cure you if you are before the tenth stage, but there is no hope after that. So, just don’t do it. And for those curious, any charm effects that are still active when you warp back to Earth will still be in effect. So if you are a blob of slime when you warp to Earth, then you will be a blob of slime on Earth, too, and will have to survive the week somehow. Now then…” At this point Raguna had gotten bored. All that he had even cared about in that rant was the part about how to use the charms. Seeing no real point in paying attention anymore, Raguna began to drowse off…
~ ~ ~
“Ok then!” Kegumi’s voice had woken Raguna up. Not much time seemed to have passed, only about an hour it seemed. Better yet, it seemed that this chick was done with her rant. “For tonight, you all may stay in the dorms here. After you wander outside you notice that this facility looks quite similar to an English bording school campus,” “How did she know about English?” Raguna thought. “and as such, you will find the rooms in a similar place. Girls will be on the east side of the area, and boys to the north. Two people to a room, and you will find that some extra clothes and money will be found in each room. You will have to split it up amongst yourselves. Oh yeah… CLASS DISMISSED!! GET OUT OF MY FACE!!” Kegumi shouted. Every one got up and started heading towards the rooms that they were supposed to be staying in, ready for sleep after the long day mixed with boredom and excitement. Raguna figured that he would rate this world based on tomorrow, since today was just a more random version of school. How boring. Raguna and Tala decided just to share a room, since we knew each other. As soon as he saw the bed, Raguna flopped down, and instantly passed out, having dreams about fantasy lands, and magical weapons.
