The [Stray] Wolf
duh, it's about me
Dream 10
The Mental Flood

The next few seconds where a blur to me, but of two things I was certain. First, I was alive, and second, my sister had just saved my life Hellvayne slammed into the wall behind me, causing a hole to form in it. “So you do remember ” I exclaimed in joy, only to have my hopes shoved back down my throat. She had yet again taken arms against me, finally deciding that I was the threat. Swinging the broad sword she had acquired at me with inhuman speed she left a gash in my right arms shoulder. Only having seconds to react to the second swing I raised the Mortikye to her sword. Parrying the strike at my heart I swung the sword over my head in a circle to block an attempt at my neck. Moving nowhere fast in the fight I decided upon another strategy; to flee, I hopped from stone to stone towards the heaped body of Hellvayne. When I was on the monstrous back of the creature an unforseen fear was realized; it started to move. His head swivelled to face me-the stone removed-and let out an enormous roar. Swiftly following my movement my deranged sister was next to me again trying at my life. Hellvayne clenched his fangs around my wounded arm, adding to the pain. Writhing in my fiery negligence to watch my surroundings and flailing to keep the other sword off of me I could only scream out a swear.

As she had been fighting me, my sister slowly recognized my movements as a rouge style of swordsmanship, the same kind that she had learned. After my outburst of profanity she was hit with a small wave of memory; childhood friends, mother and father, playing hide and seek with a slightly older boy...what more could there be to me that I don’t know she thought furiously trying to syphon more of her untold life. Her movements betrayed no change in thoughts though, she stabbed Hellvayne in the snout-causing him to let go-and shouted “Let me have a fair fight against this so called rogue demon.” Nodding Hellvayne backed off, just to leave me open to her. She seemed to be in the middle-neutral to the fight-and would attack either of us. But it was yet again my turn to spar with her, as we had when we were little kids. I could feel my arm disappearing from my consciousness, it wasn’t a pleasant feeling to endure. The pounding of swords did nothing to ease it either, she was resilient-we both stood on the back of Hellvayne still, but if I could have been cornered; it would have been her to do it. I considered how she was attacking and realized that she was using an all out strategy and decided to take a more defensive approach. In a matter of seconds we were upon the other end of the dragons back, her now blocking more often then not. Whether or not I was winning was of little concern to me, I still longed to have my former sibling back; I would not make a life threatening blow towards her. When will this end I wondered to myself as I jumped off the back of Hellvayne to put some distance between me and my sister, hoping for some recovery time. She seemed to have the same idea as me, we both were kneeling about twenty feet apart-watching each other to make sure there wouldn’t be any cheap blows at one or the other. To my dismay Hellvayne saw the break as an opportunity to attack; I saw his jaw opening and coming at me from the side. Already halfway through the motion I rolled forward, sidestepped my enraged sister as she charged Hellvayne and opted to join her. She noticed me and took my help as harm then lurched forward with extra speed. I managed myself more energy in spite of the draining blood and matched her pace. She decided it was useless to try to out run me so she ignored it while holding on to the fact that I was dazed and weak.
We both reached Hellvayne-swords outstretched-and implanted them in the slit-shaped pupils of his. “You’re helping me?” She asked in shock while Hellvayne screamed in pain. The Dragon reared up, stretched out his massive arms and planted them where we were standing not but two seconds ago. Our feet touched the ground for a split second, we bounded in opposite directions by instinct and bared down on top of Hellvayne; trying to end his existence. The battle raged in a similar fashion of cat and mouse, but the role’s switched frequently. Finally after hours of dodging claws and scratching scales we were exhausted. I was beginning to slip up, I only say this because I was hit and knocked back-my shirt torn from me. I struggled to get up but talons had already settled around me, cutting off circulation and forcing all the air from my lungs in a scream of pain.
That’s when it happened, my sister fell to her knees; all the memory flooded her mind in a painful flash. The childhood games, the lessons as a teenager, the rules of her lineage, everything including me. She understood why I was there, how she got there and what was happening. She screamed to me “Hang on I’m coming” I felt as if it were already too late, my vision was splotchy, I was numb and I couldn’t say anything. My expression must have been horrible because she began to scream-a distant echo for me now-and charge the dragon. I tried a call to her, but even opening my mouth was a chore to me now...
