Yullen::Love is Stronger
Having a goal based on love is the greatest life insurance in the world. If you had asked my dad why he got up in the morning, you would have found his answer disarmingly simple: “To make my wife happy.”
Dad met when Mom had just joined the Dark Order. Every other day before sunrise, they’d meet in the training grounds( I assume, seeing as this is what dad told me... ). What they did afterwards was a mystery. Dad did say they occasionally sparred. Mom always made fun of Dad when he got distracted whenever he got too close. That I do know, and from experience, too. Oh, did I mention Mom and Dad are both guys...? Their names are Yu Kanda and Allen Walker, in case you were wondering. Well, whatever. Upon returning from missions, many of the others had said that the two of them were the best “exorcist” in the Order. Note the singular!
They took their time building their relationship, even though Dad always knew Mom was always the girl–excuse me– guy for him. Their first kiss occurred when Mom turned 16, I believe, and their romance continued to grow well into the rest of their lives.
Just how much power their relationship created was brought to light in 18xx. ‘Uncle’ Komui told Dad he had six months to a year left at most because of his curse.
“Sorry to disagree with you, Komui,” my father said.”But I’ll tell you how long I have. One day longer than the Bean sprout. I love him too much to leave this world without him.”
And so it was, to the amazement of everyone who didn’t really know this love-matched pair, that Mom passed away at the young age of 39( is that really considered young...? ) and Dad followed one year later when he was 43. Near the end, he told me that those 15 years were the best six months he ever spent.
To the wonderful doctors and nurses of the science and health( I think they were two separate departments...), Dad was a walking miracle. They kept a loving watch on him and just couldn’t understand how he could continue to function so darn well.
Dad’s explanation was simple. He said being an exorcist for all these years, he saw many battle wounds in his life, and he knew quite a few of the exorcists that had become amputees because of Akuma, and he had noticed that none of them could think straight, always on the negative, afterward. So he decided he would tell his body how to behave, as crazy as it sounds. Once, as he stood up and it was evident he felt a stabbing pain, he looked down at his chest and muttered something along these lines;”Shut up! We’re having a party here.”
Two days before he left us he said, “Son, I’ll be with your mother very soon and someday, some place, we’ll all be together again. But take your time about joining us; your mother and I have a lot of catching up to do.”
It is said that love is stronger than prison walls. Dad proved it was a heck of a lot stronger than that little curse of his. Lenalee, Lavi, Miranda, Krory, Komui, everyone else, and I are still here, armed with Dad’s final gift.
“A goal, a love, and a dream
Give you total control
Over your body and your life.”
–A very good friend of mine.
