I was still alive! I was thinking, so I must be still alive! I opened my eyes. This was happening a lot. Falling out of the world, then fading back in. I was growing used to waking up in strange places. My body throbbed and my head ached. I could hear voices in the distance and I turned my head to make out who they belonged to.
I blinked in surprise. Was that who I think it was? "I thought I told you to guard her, Ace." Ace looked away, angry. "If you had been with her from the start this wouldn't have happened- Aeolus." Disregarding the pain that I was in, I scrambled up to take a better look.
Aeolus moved up to me, "You ok?" He put his hands on my back and helped me sit up, "I should have known you'd survive such a fall" Ace walked over to me and looked me up and down "Are you hurt" he asked. I still ached. I felt where I was cut, but could feel nothing. No marks, no anything. How could this be?
I tried to reply and wanted to ask so many questions but when I opened my mouth to talk, I couldn't. "I apologize, you must be thirsty." I shut my eyes from the pain. My throat felt like it was on fire. I felt a cup pressed to my lips and I slowly opened my eyes and drank.
It felt so refreshing. I hadn't realized until now just how thirsty I had been. Once I had finished, Aeolus moved in close, "Do you think you can stand?" He asked. I tried. I could, but pains shot through my body as I did so.
I winced and ended up leaning all of my weight on Aeolus. "Wh-What was that thing?" My voice was raspy and I could only utter out one question. Aeolus and Ace looked at each other and frowned. "That... is a Night Crawler. It tends to hunt in the dark and feeds on the blood of rare beings. The more pure and rarer the blood is, the stronger it becomes." I nodded, urging Ace to continue.
Ace looked at me, "You really don't know anything do you?" I felt like screaming, "I've been trying to tell you that!" Rare? I wasn't rare. I was a half-blood! My sister was pure. It was my sister they wanted, "You have the wrong person!" I cried, "My sister is the pure one," Ace just laughed - "You don't know what your mother was, do you?"
My mother? She was just a normal woman! "... What are you talking about?" Aeolus had his eyes closed as he said, "Ace stop, she doesn't need to know about this yet." He then turned to me, "I hope you will be patient a little longer. Once we reach the Capital I shall explain this to you."
Ace started on walking, so we set off, "It's a while by foot," I heard Ace say from ahead of us, "So we need to get going now" I thought for while, "Where...where's Archie?" I couldn't see him around, even in his small form, and I began to grow worried.
Ace grinned and replied, "Don't worry about Archie." Aeolus then went to me and lifted a necklace that was around my neck. I looked on in surprise, I didn't notice it at all when I woke up. "He's right here." There was a green crystal at the end of the necklace chain that seemed to glow in acknowledgment. "You seem to have a natural ability to regenerate quickly and it seems to affect those near you as well." Aeolus smiled at me, "He always takes on that form to regenerate when he is injured, as long as that crystal is green he's alive, don't worry about him."
Ace pulled on my hand, "Now come on," he said, "We've wasted enough time as it is." We were entering a forest. It was dark, and foreboding. The trees hunched over, their leaves and branches trying to catch me as I passed. Menacing roots popped up dangerously from the ground, trying to trip us as we passed. I couldn't help but feel someone was watching me, as shadows danced amongst the woodland.
I was still very woozy and I had to rely mostly on Aeolus who was carrying me effortlessly. With me out of the way, Ace and Aeolus were moving in blurs. My eyes could barely keep up with them.
