"But, the war has to end!" yelled the king's aid furiously.
"Be Silent Little Human, A God Bows To No Man. I Can Grant You What You Seek, But In Return There Is A Terrible Price, One That All Of Your Descendents Must Pay, One That Requires Them To Serve My Needs, Should The Occasion Arise." so spoke the Goddess of life, wife to the King of all Gods. Her name was Eothena.
King Brentis thought furiously, the price he was asked to pay for the power to stop the invaders was indeed high, but the gifts he and his children would recieve were well worth it. The ability to use magic, be immortal, and be immensely strong were great gifts indeed; but his price, the drinking of human blood to sustain the immortality, the creation of an adversary that can kill him, and the requirement of service to the Goddess were ones that would weigh heavy on any mind. In the end he made his decision to go forward with it. To become what his people needed, a warrior that could end the onslaught presented before them.
"I will do it, oh Master of the Forests, bestow upon me your gifts and take your price, I am sure my descendents will be gracious of your offer." he said, solemnly.
"So Be It Mortal, I Do Hope Your Kin Come Through On Their Offer, Now Become As A Demi-God And Rain Defeat Upon Your Enemies." Eothena raised her shining white hand and held it over the king.
He began to glow and his skin turned white, his hair the blackest black, blood-red running through it. His eyes Turned black with gray streaking across them. His teeth grew just a tad sharper, and when the deed was done, the king even seemed to stand taller. He looked out over his sons, they having changed as well, and then he looked at his other servents.
"We have her blessing, NOW LET US FIGHT!" and so the brave King Brentis fought his wars and he won every single one, he found later that those who drank of his blood became stronger than him, but did not have the same benefits, they only lived for forever, they still had human weakness to attacks and could use no magic.
Yet these protectors proved useful, and they became the kings personal guard. When these protectors would have children, their children would be like them, and sam with the king and his sons. So the pool of immortals continued to grow until the Goddess called upon them.
She instructed them that their nemisis would be a creature known only as the Wraith. They can travel in shadow and are of shadow. They can suck the souls out of their kind and end their lives with no remorse. So she gave them armor and weapons to allow them to at least defend themselves, and she told them that they were no longer allowed to rule over the world, that they must now protect it.
She instructed them to form an order of knights, the secrecy of which would be kept only within their personal ties, and no more. Any who knew of them that were not of their species would be killed within a month of a terrible plague. She told them that the King's Gift would be bestowed only on a single child when he was needed, and he was to be called the Philosophy's Knight, and she gave them their code, a philosophy that they had to follow to defend the world.
And thusly did they follow their orders, for every so often in the world, their would be a call for help, and he would arise, the protector of the world, the valorous warrior, Philosophy's Knight.
