Ashlan was sitting on the grass near a stone wall, pulling up the weeds, tossing stones, and sifting gray sand. She picked up a rock and was about to chuck it, but it felt lighter and more delicate than a rock should. Bringing it close to her face she realized the shape resembled an egg.
The first thought was worry, now that she had touched it the mother won't accept her child. However, the egg had all ready been abandoned she realized, it was just laying on the ground, no nest, no family. Settling on the fact that she had rescued the poor gray egg from loneliness she decided the only choice she had was to continue the care of the egg and whatever may lay inside.
She carefully cradled the egg in her skirt, watching it as if it would hatch at any moment...
