*****************************************************
Down the street of nicely built homes, a pale face peers trough a window from a grand home. Her crystal blue eyes shined through her dark wavy hair that ended in curls. Her pale skin gave her a sickly look of beauty, just like a porcelain doll, she sat there all day watching the people outside her window rustle about. She was a sick child with heart problems so she could not get out often. Admiring the world from her window was her pastime. She was a child of fifteen. “My lady,” asked a voice from behind. She quickly spun around to see a maid, “The lord is home, would you like to greet him before he attires?” the maid bowed as she asked. She immediately sprung up form her chair and quickly went down the stairs, holding onto her emerald green dress, its black frills seemed to fly about bouncing on top of her feet. She reached the bottom of the stairs to find a man walking through the door. He was a man of his twenties, he wore a black suit with embroiled flowers on his chest. He has brown hair that cascaded along his face, covering her blue eyes, that like her, shone through brightly on his kind face. She embraced him tightly before letting go and looking up, “Hello older brother! How was your day?” she asked sweetly. He smiled warmly and rubbed her head,” It was excellent and how was yours?” “It was boring without you!” she remarked. Chuckling he moved her hair from her face and kissed her forehead. “Michio, would you like to have some tea before I rest?” she shined as she tugged his arm into the dining room where they had an afternoon tea party. He soon had to sleep, so he left the dining room with Michio playing with her stuffed animals. He walked inside of his room which was a white one with red carpeting. The designs were intricate and complex, the white drawers on them were huge and there were many. Even though closed, one can tell it was heavy and full of work papers. On top of his desk laid pens strewed about with an ink bottle here and there. He made his way to his bed untying his tie. Rustling through the large quilt he breathed deeply before closing his eyes. But soon after he heard a faint knocking on the door, ”Come in,” he called as he say a small figure walk into his room. It was Michio holding a small candle light and a stuffed animal, “May I sleep with you tonight older brother?” she asked shyly. He only smiled and removed the quilt, patting the spot next to him, a sign for her to join him. Delighted, she places the light down and scoots over next to him. He laid there running his long white fingers through her hair until her heard her soft breathing. He kissed her forehead and fell asleep soon afterwards. The morning sun rose and shined onto him. He woke up and quietly left his sister to slumber. He made his way to the dining room to eat breakfast. Straightening his suit, a maid presented him with a letter, turning it around he sees the symbol and frowns. Sipping his coffee he asks, “When was this?” he bites into his biscuit. “Just this morning my lord,” she said as she poured him more coffee. He opened the letter and scanned it over and frowned yet again. It read, “Hello my dear friend, how are you? I was just wondering since you have not written in so long! And how is that little sister of yours? Is she ready to be my bride yet? Your regards, Joseph,” Before he could make any remarks Michio walks into the room stretching, “Good morning dear brother!” she sung. Thinking quickly he stuffs the letter into his front pocket tapping it into place. “Oh hello my dear,” he smiled. She sat down and started to spread jelly onto a muffin before noticing the envelope on the table, “Oh who is this from? She turns it to the back and notices the seal, “This is from Lord Joseph right?” she asked in awe. Lance, annoyed, only said, “Yes he wanted to know how I was…” the glow seemed to die and she quietly asked, “Did he wonder anything about me?” looking at her he could not help but tell her, “Yes, he did mention you too,” to his dismay this brought a smile to her face yet again as she bit into her muffin. “Brother can we visit Lord Joseph? We haven’t seen him in so long!” she asked him kicking her feet around her mouth full of food. He looked at her again and only smiled but before he could answer a maid tapped his shoulder and whispers in his ear, “You have a visitor sir,” walking into the from the sees Lord Joseph himself. “Speak of the devil…” he forces a smile on his face as he greeted him. Joseph was a man of his twenties as well but he had a sly attitude. He wore a bright white suit with simple black tie. Seeing that Lance was coming he prompted himself up, but he was still inches shorter then him. “Hello Joseph…” he whispered unwillingly as he shook the man’s hand. “Why hello there you old hound! What are you up to this fine morning?” he remarked jokingly. “well I was eating breakfast with my dearest sister so I hope you don’t mind l-” “Joining you?” he cut him off short, ”Why of course, I would love to!” he laughed as he waltz right past Lance and into his dining room. Michio was biting into the last piece of her muffin when Lord Joseph pulled out a chair and sits down next to her, “Word Soseph?!” she stumbles to say as she chokes on the muffin slightly. “L-lord J-Joseph fancy s-seeing you here today!” she muttered shyly. “Yes quite a surprise…” Lance mumbled under his breath as he drank his coffee. Joseph took the offered biscuit and began to spread jam on it. Eating it with poise he turns over and smiles at Michio who turns towards her brother blushing madly. “My this jam is sweet, but it could never make my day any sweeter then seeing you my dear,” he glances over at her again, this time with a devilish smile. Lance put down his napkin and sternly said, “I will not tolerate such behavior in my home,” getting up from the table he walks out of the dining room with Michio following him loyally. Joseph merely stood up smiling and walked towards the door alongside them. Lance stopped at the door and turned around to kiss her on the forehead before leaving, “Good bye little one, I will see you when I return” he said as he patted her nodding head. She stood there watching them depart. Walking up to her room she clutches her chest and sits down by her window, “Even this broken heart wants to love,” She said softly as she drank her medication and laid down in her bed. The two men walked inside the horse drawn carriage where they started a conversation. “I will not tolerate such acts around her,” Lance said sternly glaring at Joseph. “She is to be my bride and you know of this already,” he said smirking. “it was not my wish it was my father’s, but dead men cannot speak after laying down to rest, now can they?” Joseph glanced at Lance annoyed and taken back at his comment, “One way or another…her heart will be mine,” he growled. Lance could only hope his words would not be heeded. Because even though she was a female all the family’s fortune was in her name and her spouse. Lance did not care for that, but he simply cared for her well being as an older brother. Michio stood in front of her mirror switching between a ruby red dress with white frills to a golden yellow one with golden lace with the help of two maids. She was invited to a ball of where only the richest can attend. She was invited to go with Lord Joseph who was now her fiancé. Lance waited at the door for his younger sister. He, himself, could not attend the ball due to work but he will escort her just to be safe. He looked up to see a dainty figure wearing a ruby red dress, she walked down the steps with soft clip and clops. Her black curls bounced on her shoulders and her face was glowing with excitement. They both walked into the carriage which lead them to the ball. Lance hugged his sister tightly before letting her walk into the ball alone. Walking in she looks around in awe. The room was enormous and grand, the framing was of golden laurel patterns. The ceiling was painted with holy scenes of angels and ancient times. The room was filled with people wearing all sorts of dresses and suits. She walked around smiling at everyone she saw, attracting a lot of gazes from everyone. The women, stared her down, “Who is she?” “Where did she come from?” “How dare she, who does she think she is?” “That girl seems like such a tramp,” “Hmtp,” “Her dress is not as nearly as beautiful as mine,” her smiled turned into a saddened face as she walked through the crowd, sad and confused. The beautiful room crowded with wonder now seemed to be a jungle of beasts. She walked around and saw a group of women crowded around a man who was kissing each one‘s hand‘s, pleasingly enough it was Joseph. “Joseph!” she cried as she pushed her way through the crowd, “Joseph, lets dance! Older brother taught me how to da--” she was cut off by the crowd of women surrounding him, “Who are you? We were here first so go away little girl,” said an older woman. “Yes, who do you think you are? How rude!” again, the dark comments tore at her broken heart as she looked towards Joseph for support. “But he’s…my fiancé!” she screamed unable to keep in her anger. Shocked the women looked back at Lance who shrugged his shoulders and laughed, “She is but 15 let her have her dreams, I will be back after this dance. Please pardon me,” took her hand and sharply tugged her away from the crowd into a dark hallway. Checking to see if they were followed he turns around and grabs her by her shoulders and pulls her close to him. Softly he whispers, ”You are my toy, don’t go around saying what does not need to be heard,” Michio’s eyes grew wide as a dark smile appeared on his face. “What are you sa-” before she could finish he slaps her across the face and slams her into the wall were she slides down to the ground unable to get up. She looks up at him with tears in her confused eyes and sadly tries to get up only to be kicked down again, “Don’t try to get up you little wench, did you really think that I, Joseph Latimer would love such a pathetic woman as yourself?” he laughed as he kicked her body around. She laid face down before being kicked onto her back. She was clutching her chest panting heavily her mouth gaping wide. “Are you having an attack?” he laughed cruelly as he kicked her around a few more times watching her flail hopelessly. Soon enough she laid there lifeless like a true porcelain doll, tears still trickling down her cheeks, her curls laid shrewd about her, her hands softly fell off her chest and onto the ground. Joseph prompted himself then walked into the servants quarters and grabbed a random man and threw him into her lifeless body. With that he ran out into the ballroom and screams madly about the murder of his little fiancé… A few days later Lance is seen in her room crying. Joseph was to come and collect his “earnings” soon. Since he was her spouse he now owns everything since everything belonged to her. Lance had now lost everything, his home, his money, and his dearest sister. He kneels with his head on her bed smelling what is left of her scent. He cried for many days regretting to ever let her go to that ball, in his sorrow he stumbles upon her desk where he looks at a small golden key with a letter attracted to it. Rubbing his swollen eyes to read the note, he picks up the key and unlocks the first drawer on her desk to reveal a single piece of paper that read, “I am old enough now to know that I own the property of this household. For all with my condition I know I will not be able to carry on the William name and for that I will then say that if I were to die I will leave everything for my eldest brother Lance,” With that he slowly kneeled onto the floor and begins to cry yet again holding the piece of paper tenderly. Walking into the hallway he looks down at Joseph with his swollen eyes and his messy hair. Joseph was wearing his usual attire but with a smug smile he walks right into the home and looks around, “Get out of my home now little Lance,” he cracked walking past him. Lance merely stood there and sighed. Annoyed he yells at him, “You are now my dog, you do what I say, and I’m telling you to get out of my home you worthless dog!” he screams with an insane cruelty kicking at Lances weak body. Lance turns around and suddenly thrusts his fist into Josephs face and watches him fall back onto the hard floor. “How, how dare you attack your master!” the police start to grab Lance before he shouts, “Stop, for I am not the one to be arrested. This man here killed my sister with his own hands in order to get what he wanted, even if he had to stain his hands with the blood of the innocent,” he struggled out of the police’s grip and looked down at Joseph with a grim stare, “How do I know? Because witnesses say that they saw them leave together last, and who is known for his deed with women for their money? No one but you dear Joseph,” he slowly walked upstairs into her room before saying his last words, ”Joseph it was futile to kill my beloved little sister, in her will lay’s my name, not yours. You may take him to jail now, where his soul can be broken into pieces by acts of similar sin.” he walked into his sisters room and laid in her bed, softly tears ran down his cheeks as the police took the mad man away who screamed at the top of his lungs, to have everything and to have it lost, is it true you must lose to gain?
