I find it hard to believe in ghosts yet I write this. It was a beautiful day in the spring and I went for ride. As I was driving I felt like something or someone was watching me. I pulled over to a parking lot. There is a Restaurant on Route 611 it was about 4:37p.m. on my watch.
The parking lot of this place overlooks the Delaware River. The sun was shining brightly and the rays of light bounced across the ripples in the river. I have stopped at this place before but nothing ever really caught my eye other than the beauty of the river and scenic overlook. This is one of the places where the river turns. As I sat watching the water, I heard voices, first faint, then louder.
I looked around and I saw nothing. I told myself that I must be losing it. All of a sudden out of the corner of my eye I saw what looked like an old Hag, I did a double take and I saw an image of a woman in about her late 40's. She had long black hair and dark eyes. She was somewhat medium size, not fat but not skinny. Her face had some wrinkles in them. I asked myself where she came from because there were no other cars around.
At first I ignored her, but then she started to give me the creeps. I glanced away for a few moments and when I looked back there was a white man standing next to her. He looked like he was from colonial or even earlier times. She looked poor almost like she was wearing burlap. I heard them talking and they both talked with an accent.
I heard him mumbling something about his wife who died and that he wanted to move on and marry again but his kids did not approve. It was hard to understand everything they were saying because I do not like to eavesdrop and the sun was glaring, and I just stopped for a minute to catch a look at the river and its beauty.
I did hear him call her Velma. Anyway, I heard her say that someone was forcing her to move west. She wanted this guy I think she called him James, to go with her. She spoke broken English and it sounded funny, not like the English we speak. It was hard to tell what she was saying all of the time. I saw that he was holding a flower and he handed it to her saying something. I remember seeing a petal of it falling to the ground, then he said something like "Come on it will all be over soon". I did not really understand everything that was being said.
The final part to all of this is that I walked up to the edge of the parking lot. They were about 20 feet away from me. I looked at their faces once again, and they looked different, like they had no eyes or something. It is very hard for me to describe. I saw the two of them embracing out of the corner of my eye as I walked to the stone wall. I looked for probably a couple of seconds away towards the water, and when I turned around, they were gone! They were not to be found.
There are no sidewalks on this part of 611. I was astonished that they seemed to vanish. There was no car that started no fading sounds of anyone walking or running away, they were just gone! IT was the creepiest feeling I have ever felt in my life! I walked to the highway and looked both ways. NOTHING! Not a car or anything. And this was in the early afternoon! I walked to where they were standing and I looked for the petal that fell from the flower he handed to her. All I could find was a dead dried up leaf. I could not tell if it was a petal from a flower or a leaf from a weed.
I am sorry I dropped it and did not bring it home with me. I looked for a good 15 min. waiting for something else to happen but nothing did. I looked for any sign of life that was there, nothing. I walked back to the edge of the wall by the river and I saw bubbles floating up to the water's surface. I felt really strange; unnerved. It hit me then what happened to me was not normal.
Let me stress that I am a nonbeliever in ghosts. This has been bothering me for weeks. I needed to share this with someone. I find myself now looking for answers, I am sorry I did not have a camera or someone else with me at the time I was there. It is all so weird. But I do not do drugs and I do not drink so I know that I am safe in that respect.
The question remains, what is out there? What did I see? If anyone is ever walking on or by Route 611 in Forks Township and you stop at a parking lot by a restaurant, I will not say which one because I do not want to ruin the owners business, Look for a couple that looks like they are in their late 40's or early 50's. They have deep dark lifeless eyes. They dress funny and talk with accents; both a strange type of English. She looks like a Native American, and he looked Swedish or Norwegian, I think. He had Sandy Blondish Hair. They disappeared basically in front of my eyes.
I have not gone back there since. I am sort of afraid. I am now looking and reading ghost stories, especially in the Lehigh Valley. Since my experience I now believe in ghosts. Something I thought I would never say. One of these days I am going to go back there. Once I overcome my fear of the unknown. Maybe the next time I will take my camera.
this is one of my ghost stories
