Venser stood in the middle of the giant cathedral, waiting for any signs of motion. He heard a board creek to his left, and a paper shuffle to his right before being hit with what felt like 200 lbs. of bricks. He went flying back into some benches from the force of the blow. And before he could blink it was on top of him, pressing its claws into his back and breathing deeply.
"Why..why do you want to kill me?" Venser asked.
"I do not wish for your death, it is what my master wishes."
"Who is your master?"
"I'm sorry. I don't talk to dead men."
Just as the last words were uttered, Venser felt his assailant's claws rip into his back and lift him up, throwing him across the trashed room into a stone pillar. Mere seconds later, he felt searing pane just below both his shoulders. He looked just in time to see the black throwing spikes return to the hands from which they were thrown.
"I suppose since you're going to die, I'll at least tell you my name," the raspy voice said.
"And what might that be?" Venser asked
"I..am the Vec Raider, Astrael."
Venser's eyes widened as he realized exactly what he was dealing with. The Vec didn't give Venser a chance to respond. He had been through too much punishment for hesitance, and he didn't want to repeat it. Before Venser could rise to his feet, he felt a coldness wrapping around him at an alarming speed. Before he knew it, he was wrapped in the Vec's Chain of Command. For the first time, Astrael stepped into the light and Venser got a good look at him. He stood over six feet tall, and was heavily bandaged from head to toe. He held a throwing spike in his left hand, while his chain was wrapped around his right arm. The Vecs were known for their ability to use the chain as an extension of the body rather than a regular weapon. "And now, it ends." Astrael said as he jerked his arm back, tightening the chain around Venser and consequently breaking a few of his bones. He rolled the spike around in his hand anxiously as he aimed at his victim's head. Just as the spike left his hand, Venser was able to cast a spell that propelled him backwards into yet another pillar, but it pulled Astrael forward faster than his spike was traveling. When the two skulls collided, Venser was killed immediately. Mere seconds later, the spike ran through Astrael, pinning them both to the pillar in death's embrace.
