Dawn
As I woke to the dawn of the east I laid there in my bed. No reason to get up, I thought as, I saw the dusty bands of light stretch into my room. It was only the early hours of the day and my dad was fast asleep.
I looked at the clock once more. It flashed on and off like a red light. I guessed it had stormed again. I wonder what today will bring. Another rainfall or a sunny day? I lived in the one place it would rain 24/7. Forks, Washington. In the Olympic peak.
I heard my dad cough and roll over in his never ending sleep. Three days ago he had been laid off from work. So all he did was sleep, eat, then sleep some more. I couldn’t take it but what else was there to do in this place when it rained. I mean it wasn’t like I had anywhere to go.
The time would come when that idiot did something right and the papers would want the story. I got up thinking it was about eight o’clock. Saturday and the first day of summer what a load of fun! Not. I was hoping by now I would have a normal life but I was wrong. I was born here in Forks but when I was only one my mother took me away from this place.
I would come to visit my dad in the summer but up until a week ago I had never lived with him. I had come down here after school ended in New York to join my dad for the last of my minor years. My mom and step-dad traveled and it tour my mom apart to leave me.
So I decided it was time for me to go spend some time with my half-wit father. So here I am in Forks, Washington when I could be doing my summer shopping in New York again. At least everyone was happy even if I wasn’t they could be. When more light broke through the clouds and window I got up. It wouldn’t be hot but it would be about fifty today so I dressed in my tight size two jeans and a light cream sweater on.
Under the sweater I wore a black tank top so it looked really cool. I put on my socks and shoes then went down stairs. Where my dad would be by now. I walked down the mouse sounding steps and the into the kitchen.
“Good Morning Alice did you sleep well?” My overjoyed Dad asked as I got some cereal down.
“I slept fine Dad. It was just alil to rainy last night.” I assured him. And I was right he had lived all his life but not me. So he was used to all the rain and storms at night. But I wasn’t unless it was storm season.
“Well Ali dear it’s like that just about every night and day. It rains a lot here, you’ll just have to get used to it. I promise it won’t take long for you to get used to the rain. Oh and I got a new job as deputy police officer!” He smiled an old wrinkled smile.
“That’s great dad! And I know dad it’s just something to get used too. I won’t worry to much bout it.” I answered his smile with one of my own.
“That’s the spirit. Well I’m off to work call the station if you need to get a hold of me. I might be late tonight but don’t worry I’ll be here by eleven by the latest time.” He got up washed his dishes and had walked to the door telling me this.
“Oh, and before I forget Ali please don’t get lost in Forks I don’t want you getting hurt. It’s your first time really here since you were six. And I don’t want to file a missing persons report on you.” He said he looked scared that I would get lost.
“No problem Mi-dad! I know the town I won’t get lost. And I know the forest so no worries there. I’ll see you later I’m going to do some exploring.” I told him smiling again.
Then he walked out the door. I listened for the police curser to leave and when it did I walked back upstairs. I grabbed my small backpack and filled it with things I would need to go hiking.
I put in a book, a flashlight, two water bottles, a spiral, and two pencils. Then, I added three snack bars too. When I was ready to go I walked to the front door grabbing my keys, and cell. I also put my wallet in my back pocket.
After that I left the house and went straight for the forest.
