Ghosts of the Lighthouse
-----------------------------------------
Once,
Once I was alive.
I breathed
I felt
I lived.
I would go each day
To the Beach and the Bay
And swim my way to the Lighthouse
I climbed up to wait
On my Love arriving
Till Fate did play its part
And that day as my heart broke
My Life slipped from my body
And Love and I were taken in
The Captives of the Sea
Ghosts of the Lighthouse.
Once I was alive.
I breathed
I felt
I lived.
I would go each day
To the Beach and the Bay
And swim my way to the Lighthouse
I climbed up to wait
On my Love arriving
Till Fate did play its part
And that day as my heart broke
My Life slipped from my body
And Love and I were taken in
The Captives of the Sea
Ghosts of the Lighthouse.
~Chapter one~
It was a beautiful, sunny day at Lighthouse Bay. The bay was named for the lighthouse, the town for the bay, and the little island was called Sunshine.
“KAY-TIE!” a bottle-blonde suntanned girl ran up in flip-flops and a two-piece swimsuit.
“Yes Maria?” Katie didn’t turn her head. Her eyes were focused on the lighthouse and the 20-year-old ship’s wreckage impaled upon the rocks.
“You’re daydreaming about that haunting again aren’t you?”
“Yeah,” she admitted turning her ocean-blue eyes to Maria’s green ones, “I was…”
Maria leaned in and lifted Katie’s wavy brown bangs away from her face “I need your help, c’mon.” She grabbed Katie’s hand an dragged her back inland across the clean white sand of the beach.
Later, when Maria was done dragging Katie to her own bedroom, she confessed her need.
“Katie, I know about your powers,” she started, causing her life-long friend’s face to pale to the white of clean paper, “I need your help to stop the ghosts of the lighthouse.”
“W-what?” Katie asked, stunned. “How’d you know…? Why? Ghosts?”
“My bedroom is right across from yours and you don’t shut your curtains.”
“Oh.” Katie half-fell into a sitting position on her bed and stared at her ceiling. The ceiling in her room was dome shaped, and painted like the night sky with the walls of her round room painted in continuation until it reached the floor, where the sky met a brownish grassy horizon.
“The ghosts have been coming to me in my sleep, and twice I’ve walked out up to my knees into the bay in my sleep.”
“What!” Katie jumped up, suddenly angry. “Rosemary and Grey are at it again, then,” she mumbled. “Don’t worry, I’ll help you.”
