Okay, this part is really just a filler. As a whole, it's not that important. The only reason it's here is so the story doesn't skip around too much, but pay attention to the conversation between Amimi, Kim, and Rei. Especially the part about dating. Okay, only the part about dating. This part will come back later. It might take a while, depending on how long "Evanescent Loyalties" turns out to be (So far it's eleven pages long in Word). Speaking of which, I'm surprised no one has asked me what "evanescent" means. If everyone who reads this alreay knew this, awesome! If you had to look it up in a dictionary, I'm touched that you wanted to understand the title that much! If you still don't know what the word means and are too lazy to look it up, shame on you! evil This concludes this section's "Author's Note."
P.S.- I'll probably start putting Author's Notes in more often. I'm sorry if they bore you.

“I think Somai-dono knows,” Rei said suddenly. The groups had been shown to their rooms, and Rei was sharing her room with the other girls. Rei, Kim, and Kiran were alone at present. “How do you know?” Kim asked quietly. “And keep your voice down!” “The way he looked at me. It looked like he recognized me.” “Etsuko,” Kim said, using Rei’s fake name on purpose, “you need to talk to him, alone, preferably. See if you can figure out for sure if he suspects us.” “How?” “So far, Somai-dono is the only one who’s signed up for the night watch. Volunteer to work with him. I doubt anyone else will think anything of it.” “But what if he says something in the meantime?” “If he was going to say something I think he would’ve said it when he noticed it,” Kiran pointed out. “He doesn’t seem like the kind of person who would hold off on stating his suspicions.” “You’re probably right,” Rei said, but she still didn’t sound entirely convinced. Someone knocked on the door and Amimi poked her head in through a small opening. “Hiya! Mind if we come in?” “Of course we don’t,” Kim said politely. Kiran wagged his tail and walked over to Amimi and Zara as they came in. Amimi laughed and patted him on the head. “He’s so cute!” Amimi giggled. She walked over to the table where Kim and Rei were sitting and plopped down in a chair. “So, how are you?” “Fine,” Rei replied. “And yourself?” Amimi turned and waved to Zara. “Zara-chan, come sit with us!” She turned back to Rei and smiled. “I’m great, Etsuko-chan. Oh! Do you mind if I call you that? I’d like to think we can become friends. You can call me ‘Amimi-chan’ if you’d like. You, too, Jill-chan. Do you mind if I call you that?” Kim and Rei laughed. “No, we don’t mind, Amimi-chan,” Rei replied. Amimi’s smile broadened. “Good. Like I said, I hope we can all be friends. Right, Zara-chan?” “Oh, yes,” Zara said quietly. “So, Jill-chan, Etsuko-chan, tell us about yourselves,” Amimi said. She took out a box of crackers from her backpack and began munching on one. “What do you want to know?” Kim asked. “Oh, just general information.” “Like?” “Where are you from?” “Tennessee. I think I already said that, actually.” “Japan,” Rei replied. “What’s your favorite color?” “I don’t really have one.” “Red.” “My favorite color is red, too!” Amimi said happily. Rei smiled slightly. “Okay, hmm, let me think…” Amimi nibbled on a cracker and thought about her next question. “Do either of you have a boyfriend?” “I’ve only been in the country for a week, so no,” Kim reminded Amimi. “Oh. I forgot. What about you, Etsuko-chan?” “Truthfully, I don’t date,” Rei said. “Seriously?!” Amimi exclaimed, stunned. “Why not?” “I just don’t.” “Is it because you haven’t found the right person yet?” “Not exactly.” “Tell us!” “Don’t you think you’re being a little too nosy, Amimi-chan?” Zara said quietly. “I’m sure Etsuko-san has her reasons for not telling us.” Amimi seemed disappointed, but she recovered quickly. “All right, then. Hey, who’s your captain? I’m curious.” “I am,” Rei replied. “You’re very young to be a captain,” Amimi observed as she nibbled on another cracker. “Daichi-dono is your captain and he’s twenty-two, isn’t he?” “Yeah, but you’re not as old as him. Are you?” “I am.” “I’m sorry! You look like a teenager! I’m so sorry!” Rei smiled. “It’s all right. I get that a lot.” “Still, I’m sorry!” “Really, it’s fine.” “It’s getting late,” Stella Mare said as she came into the room. “Shouldn’t you kids be getting to bed?” “Actually,” Rei said, standing up, “I was going to help Daichi-dono with the night watch.”
