Edward "Ed" Glenn Jackson Jr., 51, died Sunday, June 8, 2008 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He was born on October 19, 1956 in Washington, D.C. to Edward Glenn Jackson, Sr. and Margaret Ann (Gale) Jackson who survive him.
Upon graduating from high school, he received a basketball scholarship to attend Trinidad Junior College in Trinidad, Colorado and later transferred to Adams State College of Alamosa, Colorado, where he continued to be an All Star basketball player. His 30 year teaching career began in Antonito, Colorado then later to Walsh, Colorado, and finally the Dodge City Public School System for the past 27 years. For many years, he worked as the In School Suspension ( I.S.S.) teacher where he was looked to as not only a true disciplinarian but also as a friend of the students.
Through the years, he touched many student's lives and encouraged them to make their lives a success. He continued his education and attained a Master's Degree of Arts from Newman University, Wichita. However, sports and education were not his only passion. He enjoyed the study of the Bible and sharing Bible truths of future blessing with others. On November 11, 1976, he was moved to dedicate his life as one of Jehovah's Witnesses and continued to be an active member of the Dodge City Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses until his death. Ed was a valued member of the community and his pleasant personality and smiling face will always be remembered.
Other surivors include: his wife of 28 years, Carmen L. (Nichols) Jackson, Dodge City; one son, Shannon Jackson along with his wife, Olathe; one daughter, Candice Jackson, Wichita; one brother Stephen Jackson along with his wife, Keyser, West Virginia; one sister, Denise Turner along with her husband and two children of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; five grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Visitation will be from noon to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 12, at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 13, at 2:00 p.m. at the Dodge City Middle School Gymnasium, 2000 6th Ave. Dodge City, with Mr. Mark Williams presiding. Cremation will follow the services with inurnment at a later time. Memorials are suggested to the Ed Jackson Memorial Fund in care of Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City.
