This is the wierdest music choice yet...
The Origin of the Clowder
Anyone want to know how the idea for these kitties came up?
The first one to enter my mind did so when I was in third grade. Scaide was a fan-char in my favorite anime at the time: Dragon Ball Z. At first, she was a Simese cat, and I forget her original name, though 'Scaide' was the result of me playing with sounds until I found a name I liked. I'm not sure why I picked such an odd way to spell it. (pronounced: SKAY-duh.)
Some time later, I aquired a stuffed cat that was brown, with a white chest and face. I thought it would be nice to have my made-up cat look like her. So she did, until I thought the white nose looked a little odd. Soon after, I decided she would just be all-brown. I forget when I replaced her blue eyes with green.
Merra and Ariya came next. At first, all three were sisters. I missed Scaide the Simese, so I made Ariya one. (though a red point.) Merra was always the leader, and Ariya was always the smart one.
Enter the boys: My brother first invented them. As with Scaide, I forget their original names, so I gave them my own. All are plays on Japanese words.
'Nekan' is a blend of the word for cat, (neko) and a kind of sword. (katana) 'Koryo' is the last half of neko, and the first part of the word for 'power.' (ryoku) 'Azenek' is the word for wind. (kaze) and neko, with the first and last letters removed.
Shira is white. So is salt. When I decided to give Scaide a cute little sister, I took the Japanese word for salt, (shiro) and tweaked it to make it more feminine.
The ideas for Senni and Sokrin came out of nowhere. The cheerful, sturdy, brother-sister pair just pranced into my mind. I picked their names because I liked them.
The nasty little training-kit, Tenaku is a creation of my sister. Her details are a mystery.
I decided to write my story when I decided that Team Feline (as I called them.) Would not remain in my imagination alone.
That, my friends is the former 'Team Feline.' I hope you enjoyed this little essay, and if you did, I might write another one.
The other cats in the clowder were created solely for this story.
As a bonus question, what other team of cartoon characters inspired their personalities? (Hint: The inspired cats are Merra, Koryo, Azenek, Ariya, Nekan, Sokrin, Scaide and Shira.) And I'm telling no one the answer unless it is correctly guessed.
Incorrect guesses: Thundercats, Hamtaro, Wolf's Rain.
