The day after the strange man was talking to my mother, It rained.

It rained and rained. It was a nice chance of pace from the blazing sun, but I didn't like the rain. When it rained, there was no kickball. When it rained, I had to play in the house, or risk mother yelling at me for getting muddy. I only went and played in the rain a few times, when the other kids wanted to.

I sat in the house, miserably as my mom trotted around, trying to think of things for me to do. I helped her clean, and when that was finished, I just sat and stared out the window, waiting for the rain to stop. I asked my mother about the man, I just told her I had heard a gruff voice, and not heard what they were talking about. She just told me it was one of my fathers old friends.

Pshh, Yeah right. Old friend, more like Old backstabber. And I meant it literally, tho he'd shot him, not stabbed.

Dispite what she said, I suspected more when the phone rang early that rainy day. I listened, tho I hated to do that to my mother. It was the same guy again, I could hear his voice faintly. I heard my mother turn him down again for a date, but his responds didn't sound nice this time. I heard my name come from him, and my mother say "No." But he didn't seem any happier.

It was about mid day when I was sitting in the front room, flipping through an old gardening magazine. I as bored. I heard a car drive by, and peeked out the window. It was odd to see a car on our quite street, and a car for that matter, as I said earlier, only the wealth usually drove cars. The man in the car was what I noticed most.

It was the same guy. The one who had been hassling my mother. He didn't seem to see me at first, but I moved one of the curtains on accident. I saw his gaze flicker, and move to me. For a few cold seconds, his icy glare cut through me like glass. After a few moments, he turned, accelerated the gas, and sped off down the dirty road. Leaving me sitting there, staring, and shivering from his deadly glare.

The way he stared at me, I should have known it wasn't good...I should have known...
