His chest started caving in when he was about eleven, and now you can place your entire fist in the dent there. He needs a $14,000 dollar surgery because of it, but thankfully insurance will be paying for most of it since it restricts his breathing.
To fix the dent, they will be making three incisions in his chest. One on either side of his rib case and one in the middle, for the camera. They'll slip a metal bar through the holes and fit it to his ribs, then they'll pop his chest into a normal shape. It'll be there for two years, and then they'll take it out. It will almost completely fix his chest. Only a tiny dip will be left once the bar is out.
He will have to be in the hospital for five days before he can go home and he'll be pretty restricted in what he can do for awhile.
He'll be going in early on Friday morning, and the surgery will last two hours.
I'm worried about him. He keeps blowing it off like it's nothing, but we're all worried. It's going to be a stressful week.
