Conversing without insults...] Member Me Member Me Member Me Member Can I ask you something about your beliefs? You may ask me anything, I enjoy sharing information =] I do not write the word G-d out because it is sacred. If we write G-d out and end up destroying the paper His name is written on, it is very disrespectful. To make sure that does not happen, we hyphenate the name out of respect and showing Him that His name means a lot to us. I don't have a problem with the title, god. But when I write Jehovah (the name of YHWH in english) out sometimes and miss spell it or don't form a letter just right, I have such a problem scratching it out. I usually start all over again! I know it doesn't matter because we're human and we make mistakes, and that God knows this and forgives us. But still, it just feels wrong. I figured thats why you didn't write it out and I thank you for sharing that with me. Did you know that it is forbidden to say G-d's real name? YHVH tetragrammaton is forbidden BUT we don't know how it was truly said so we don't have to worry about that. I shuld have went to the docs gonk And I should start wearing a jacket. But mmm cabbage rolls. I know that man made it forbidden to say Gods name, not God himself. It seems to make sense because of all the other false teachings that man has accepted through the ages. If they were willing to accept the cross and the trinity, why not steep Gods word in mystery and elevate their positions over people by saying that Gods name was too sacred for mans lips? If you wrote a letter and didn't want anyone to know your real name you'd just give your title and no one would know your personal name. You'd just be known as lets say...letter sender, to whoever was recieving the letter. Why would God, who is infinately smarter than man and who took time to show how much he loved us by giving us his written word and making sure it was protected through the centuries, give his name in this written document over six thousand times and expect the reciever not to use it? And by the way, did you drink any orange juice?0.o I think you, are incredibly right! Very good perspective. 	Just curious - was this person a Jew or a Messianic Jew? And you're right, man did make it forbidden to say the Lord's name...However, the Lord Did say not to take His name in vain. Here's something to think about - How many times do you say Oh G__, Oh my G__, G__ Dungit, Jesus "blankety blank blank", etc. Now I personally don't see anything wrong with saying any of the above if you're in extreme pain. 	If you consider that many things these days are called gods, atheletes, entertainers, food, hobbies etc, even national leaders were thought to be gods and in some countries still are, then the word god means nothing when considering God himself. It is just a title and is not the personal name of God. God's real name in the original scrolls and on various other artifacts is YHWH. Jehovah, which is the english rendering of YHWH (the tetragramaton...Yahweh being what we get in Greek when we add the vowels that wasn't used in ancient Hebrew). But the tetragramaton YHWH was removed from the bible sometime before 70 CE not by Jesus or his apostles but by the men who took over the teaching of Gods people after the apostles had died. They are the ones who thought it was not right to say the name of God but to rather use a title instead. These titles are Adhonai (Sovereign Lord) and Elohim (God). These priests even removed God's real name in the greek scriptures and replaced the name with the titles, Kyrios and Theos (Lord). By this action they made God's real name, YHWH, Yahweh, a mystery and probably started the thinking that God was was some impersonal "thing" that didn't care. There's a scripture where Jesus warns anyone who removes or adds to the words in the bible. Man went one step further and removed the actual personal name of the very One Jesus came to earth to help mankind get to know, his father, Jehovah God. Jesus even said YHWH (Yahweh after vowels are added, and in english, Jehovah) in his many sermons. He taught his apostles to do the same. Jesus told us and his apostles agreed through they're many sermons after Jesus death that, anyone calling upon God would have to believe that He is (exists and is the Supreme Being) and would have to know who He is (actually know the name of God). Since God is the one who put His real name in the bible, YHWH, if man removes that name, which is the greater sin? Removing God's real name from the bible which He wrote and intended for mankind to use in their everyday life, or saying his name on imperfect lips? Say your in the middle of a busy noisy room and you need something that is near a person some way away from you. Your not going to directly get that persons attention unless you know their name. If you knew their name you could get what you wanted with little trouble at all. But by not knowing their name you have to fight your way through a crowd to get what you want. The importance of knowing God's real name is far more serious. He put is name in the bible for us to know which God we were calling on and to let us know that He is set apart and not in association with other gods. I agree with you that taking Gods real name in vain is serious offense to God. But a human calling on Him in a time of need (be it physical or emotional pain) is not taking His name in vain. In fact it's showing strong faith to do so as it lets God see that we believe He exists and we believe He is the Supreme Being, not just another god. I have been known to blast off a few choice cuss words in my time. Not so much anymore because of my faith and how I'm trying to keep God's views of things in mind. It's hard and alot of times I say something and feel horrible afterwards. But, theres one expletitive I won't say and if I do I always feel like cutting my tongue out...g&d d%&m. Now, while this doesn't have God's personal name in it, it still makes me uncomfortable to say. But it would make me horribly sick to my stomach to use God's personal name in any curse. To me, thats completely unforgivable. I think this member is a Messianic Jew, which I don't know much about but am forever on the alert to learn about. We've had some nice conversations and they nor myself have ever resorted to insults. Something most Gaian's definately need is a course in respect and the proper way to carry on a conversation. 	A Messianic Jew or Messianic Christian (usually the first, few use the second one) is one who came from Jewish faith and converted to Christianity. smile I've known a few in my time. Just don't insult their heritage and all will be fine and dandy. I do envy them though. how often in Church do we learn about Jewish customs? Christianity and Judaism are both quite similar, just one key component makes things different between the two. Anywho, before I get sidetracked (easily done you know)... They have the customs that they grew up with and they have the newfound Knowledge in Christ. I would love to have the opportunity to get in touch with certain people and learn about customs of the Jewish Faith. I think that many of them could be revelant to Christians today. 	I know what you mean about humility. But haughty individuals are everywhere in life regardless if people are religious or not or what job title they hold or what financial position they are in. Believe me, I've had my fair share of christians telling me that I'm going to hell for my beliefs. But, it doesn't deter me from my faith in God or in what I've learned that he has planned for the future. While I do like to read on other religions and how they serve their god or gods, I don't have any desire to change my beliefs or incorporate another religions beliefs into my faith at all. I wouldn't expect another religion to accept my beliefs into their religion either. But, on the topic of "Tradition" rather than coming to know what God really wants... Mark 7: 1-8 1 Now the Pharisees and some of the scribes that had come from Jerusalem gathered about him. 2 And when they saw some of his disciples eat their meal with defiled hands, that is, unwashed ones— 3 for the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they wash their hands up to the elbow, holding fast the tradition of the men of former times, 4 and, when back from market, they do not eat unless they cleanse themselves by sprinkling; and there are many other traditions that they have received to hold fast, baptisms of cups and pitchers and copper vessels;— 5 so these Pharisees and scribes asked him: “Why is it your disciples do not conduct themselves according to the tradition of the men of former times, but they take their meal with defiled hands?” 6 He said to them: “Isaiah aptly prophesied about YOU hypocrites, as it is written, ‘This people honor me with [their] lips, but their hearts are far removed from me. 7 It is in vain that they keep worshiping me, because they teach as doctrines commands of men.’ 8 Letting go the commandment of God, YOU hold fast the tradition of men.” 9 Further, he went on to say to them: “Adroitly YOU set aside the commandment of God in order to retain YOUR tradition. 10 For example, Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘Let him that reviles father or mother end up in death.’ 11 But YOU men say, ‘If a man says to his father or his mother: “Whatever I have by which you may get benefit from me is corban, (that is, a gift dedicated to God,)”’— 12 YOU men no longer let him do a single thing for his father or his mother, 13 and thus YOU make the word of God invalid by YOUR tradition which YOU handed down. And many things similar to this YOU do.” 14 So, calling the crowd to him again, he proceeded to say to them: “Listen to me, all of YOU, and get the meaning. 15 There is nothing from outside a man that passes into him that can defile him; but the things that issue forth out of a man are the things that defile a man.” Jesus referred to those who pay more attention to tradition, as hypocrites.
