Kuro walked up behind Stella Mare, who was sunning herself on the roof of the estate, and purposely stepped on her tail. “RRREOW! That hurt!” the guardian exclaimed. She yanked her tail out from under Kuro’s foot as soon as he let up and whipped around to scratch him, but Kuro had squatted down and he grabbed Stella Mare’s paw at the joint before she could touch him. “You’ve been avoiding me,” Kuro said crossly. “Why?” Stella Mare smirked and turned into a siren. “I’ve been busy. Could you please let me go? I have no claws.” “You sharpen your nails,” Kuro pointed out, but he let go of her wrist anyway. “Now, you couldn’t have been too busy to talk to me for two weeks. You were avoiding me.” “What possible reason could I have for avoiding you?” Stella Mare asked innocently. “I don’t know. You tell me.” “Well, I couldn’t possibly have known that you’ve been dying to ask me a question regarding what I know regarding Daichi Somai and your precious little Rei. And I also couldn’t possibly have known that you being unable to find me for two weeks has been driving you up the wall. And I couldn’t possibly be enjoying your mental anguish,” Stella Mare said in her sweetest, most innocent voice. “You sadistic little a**!” Kuro hissed. Stella Mare smiled. “Thank you for the compliment, but you know Rei doesn’t like your cursing.” “Do you see her anywhere around here?” “Touché.” “Now, tell me what you meant?” “What are you talking about?” “You were talking to Rei as I was healing her arm then you smiled and said, ‘I knew it.’ What do you know?” Stella Mare sighed. “Fine,” she said glumly. “You remember that I have the gift of prophecy when it comes to certain things?” Kuro gritted his teeth. “Yes.” “Well, I have a little fun fact for you about the Somai boy; he shall die beside Rei.” Kuro’s face went white. “Ah, so I see that that does mean something to you,” Stella Mare said after studying Kuro’s expression. She got close to his face and said, “Care to share?” “It doesn’t concern you,” Kuro said stiffly. He scooted away from Stella Mare and added, “Please don’t tell Rei.” “How come?” Kuro got up and began walking away. “I don’t want her to know.” “She will find out, you know, even if no one tells her. Her own feelings shall give up the truth,” Stella Mare said. “It is their fate, after all.” “Fate can be changed.”
