Kianu grew hearty and strong in the next few years, as King Altair trained him from the day he turned 5. Kianu grew accustomed to it and didn't seem to mind at all. It was how he lived and what he knew. By the time he was seven he could spar with other warriors-to-be and beat them before anyone could lay a scratch on him. And soon after that he began fighting two or even three at a time. King Altair was proud to see what had become of the once helpless infant. As the days passed, Kianu began to take an interest in girls. More specifically a girl named Xiandra of the Hartes Kingdom. She too began to take an interest in him. On his eleventh birthday he vowed he'd marry her. King Altair would be more than happy to have a daughter-in-law like her. when Kianu was thirteen, he proposed to her. She more than happily accepted the proposal. So now they were due to be wed on kianu's corronation day. The day he would become King of Mizar Kingdom, on his fifthteenth birthday.
"Great shot, Kianu!" the praise reached Kianu's ears on the battleground. He was practicing with the kingdom's best warrior, Lars. He was a formiddable opponent, even for Kianu. Kianu raised his sword up and twirled it toward Lars's face. He blocked and immediately counterattacked. Kianu blocked just as well as he had. Kianu jumped back, trying to get some distance between them. Lars's heavy breathing signalled something in Kianu, telling him where exactly he should strike and how to feign an attack to cause Lars to drop his blade. Kianu smiled and yelled, "I've got you now!" He ran at Lars and tried to strike his thigh, and as expected, Lars blocked, and instead of stopping, Kianu twisted around and poked Lars gently, but just hard enough to draw a bit of blood from Lars's arm. Lars was unperturbed by this and tried to strike Kianu in the calf. Kianu jumped in the air right over the swinging blade, causing Lars to lose balance. Kianu rested his sword on Lars's shoulder, up against his jugular.
"Dead." Kianu said simply. A crowd had gathered to watch Kianu's training, as always, but this time since he was fighting the castle's finest warrior, everyone who could attend, hda been there. As soon as he had Lars, everyone ran up to him, praises coming in all directions from everywhere. Kianu wiped the sweat off his brow and said loudly,
"Excuse me, but I must go to my father." As soon as the last word left his mouth the entire crowd backed up so he could leave. He walked away without congratualting Lars, because in fact, Lars did not deserve it. He did not play as fairly as it seemed. When he had swung at Kianu's calf, he had pulled a dagger out of it's sheath, causing Kianu to end the match earlier than he had planned to. So it seemed Lars was not as noble as people say. No, he is capable of cheating as well. Kianu walked up the back walk behind the castle. As he reached the back door, a voice that sent shivers down his spine, but he had no idea why, rang out through the courtyard.
"Kianu! Kianu, wait up!" It was Xiandra, his fiance'. She ran upto him and kissed him in greeting. He did not return it, for his mood had been befouled by Lars.
"What troubles you, dear? You always return my kisses." So she noticed,
"Nothing, my sweet. I have been busy as of late and I also seemed to have forgotten my manners." And with that he kissed her quickly upon the cheek.
She answered, "Now that's better."
So they both walked into the castle. It seemed Xiandra had outrun her guards a good distance, for they did not show for a good five minutes. When they did appear, they did not reprimand her, for by now they had grown used to her running off ahead, trying to lose them.
"So Kianu, what say you about having white lily flowers at our wed? I think they'd make wonderful decorations." she said, trying to get him off his worry horse.
"Sounds great." he murmurred, deep in thought about something.
"Kianu, our wedding fast approaches, and you've yet to help me with the decorations. Do you not care that we will wed in such a way that even those in the lower kingdom could laugh at us?" she said, hint anger touched in her voice.
"I'm sorry, sweet. I've been very busy as of late. And you know as well as I do, the decorations are best left to the women." this set her off..
"I want you to help plan the wedding, Kianu! I want you to participate in helping sculpt our lives as well, as you've neglected to do. You're always too busy to help!" she cried. Kianu turned to her, and gave a slight snarl.
"I am very busy, Xiandra! You know full well of my duties and that they require me to keep my full attention to them!" He yelled. Xiandra did not show any emotions on her face.
"That doesn't mean you can't even give a passing thought about the day we join our families, our lives, Kianu. You've neglected what it means to be a husband." she did not raise her voice this time, which was even worse, to hear the sadness in her voice. Kianu regretted raising his voice to her. Men should not behave in such a way.
"I am sorry my sweet. I promise I shall help with the planning of our wedding day." he said softly, holding her delicate hand in his. She smiled slightly, and they began ascending the stairs to Altair's study.
