“…Haku?”
Haku opened his eyes to see Zeke sitting beside his bed. Haku narrowed his eyes slightly, looking around from his bed. He was in a large white room, the door labeled with spells that he couldn’t understand. He wasn’t the only one in the room though; there were several other beds against the walls, most of them occupied by one of the girls. Haku struggled to sit up, but Zeke put his hand out.
“Relax Haku, you’re still hurt.”
Zeke said. Haku looked at him, pushing his hand away.
“Believe me, I heal fast. Besides, you looked pretty roughed up yourself.”
He paused, and then his eyes gazed around the room in search of someone. Zeke caught this and spoke,
“Yuri isn’t in here, Haku.”
Haku turned quickly, wincing slightly as pain went through his head.
“What? Where is she?”
“She’s with Hiroko. She healed really fast, but her injuries are still pretty awful. Kimmoto left a scar on her face, and she’s been with Akina and Jiro since she woke up.”
Haku’s gaze drifted down, and then he suddenly made a motion to get out of bed. Zeke reached forward, grabbing him by the shoulder and holding him,
“No way Haku! I don’t care how fast you heal – your staying put until Kazuki says your fit. Yuri will be fine.”
Haku didn’t like being told what to do…but he gave in without a fight. He sat back, looking back at Zeke,
“How long have we been here Zeke?”
Zeke sat back in his chair, raising a brow as he counted on his fingers.
“Umm…well, we’ve actually been here for almost a week. You guys have been out for a couple days Haku.”
Haku shook his head, closing his eyes.
“Damn…this is really bad. We’ve been here way to long.”
Zeke considered this for a moment,
“Is that bad?” he asked. Haku nodded,
“Yes and no…we have to leave as soon as possible.”
Hiroko sat outside on the steps that led to the entrance of the school, her hands on her knees and her gaze to the forest. Sakura and Kiyoshi sat farther down the steps, watching as the sky filled with dark colors as the sun set in the distance. The sound of a door opening caused them to look back. Hiroko was somewhat surprised to see Haku walking down the steps; Zeke and Yuri following close behind. Haku was tapping a strange watch on his wrist, his eyes narrowed in frustration, but he looked up as Hiroko stood.
“Where are you guys going?”
She asked, obviously curious. Haku stopped, putting his hands in his pockets.
“We have to leave. We’re needed in other areas. Besides, you guys seem to have things under control here; no need for us to be hanging around.”
Sakura and Kiyoshi both stood, Sakura putting her hands on her hips.
“Are you crazy? You’re in no condition to be running around Haku, and Yuri isn’t even supposed to be walking!”
She snapped. Yuri looked away, turning her face so that the scar on her right cheek was hidden. Haku shook his head,
“We can’t stay any longer. We’ve been called to…another area, and we have no choice but to leave.”
He took a couple steps towards the three girls, looking at them with a serious expression
“There’s no need to worry about us. Zeke and I will take good care of Yuri, and I’m already feeling better.”
“But…Renjiro wanted to speak to you Haku…he’s still in recovery, but-“
Haku shook his head again,
“We can’t wait. Tell him I’m sorry…”
He continued walking, passing Hiroko, Sakura, and Kiyoshi. As the group came to the bottom of the steps, Haku looked back at Hiroko,
“…and tell him thanks.”
He said. Hiroko nodded a little, Sakura and Kiyoshi watching in silence as Haku led the others away towards the forest.
Zeke looked back over his shoulder, his eyes resting for a moment on the distant figure of Kiyoshi, then ahead at Haku.
“Haku, uh…will we ever come back here again?”
He asked. Haku was silent for a moment,
“I don’t know. Most likely yes, but I can’t tell the future Zeke.”
Yuri lifted a hand, touching the scar on her right cheek.
“Don’t worry Zeke; I’m sure we’ll see Hiroko and the other girls again.”
She said, speaking for the first time since the battle. Zeke smiled a little,
“I sure hope so…”
Haku gave a small laugh that caught Yuri and Zeke off guard,
“Don’t get comfortable guys. We still have more worlds to explore, and we have to remember our objective. We aren’t traveling around for kicks; we still have to find the keybearer.”
The sun had almost disappeared by now, throwing shadows out onto the world around them. Haku allowed a faint smile to cross his face as he stopped beside the Gummi Ship and turned to Yuri and Zeke.
“Lets get going.” He said simply.
