All right. I'm bored, so I'm going to rate all of the next-gen consoles based on their various features. xp It's gonna take a while until I'm happy with my results, too, so bear with me.
"Houston, we have the Revolution here. Over." ninja Okay, bad reference, but I did it. I'll work on he PS3's soon. (By the way, if any of the punctuation is screwed up, please forgive me. I don't know why Gaia does that...)
(The numbers next to the title of each paragraph is my placing for that section out of 3; e.g.- 1/3 = 1st place out of 3 possible. I may not grade some of them quite yet. I'll try not to be biased in my ratings, if nothing else.)
arrow Name: Nintendo Revolution I like the name, but the fact of the matter is, it's merely a code name. *sigh*
arrow First Appearance: E3 2005 [Nintendo Press Conference] (2/3) I'm disappointed that they revealed the console with so little on the actual system or games! gonk I give it second place instead of first because I think they should of, a] held onto the info, or, b] released at least a launch title name...
arrow Physical Appearance: (1/3) I like this one best, surprisingly. It's small and compact, smooth, shiny (!), and simple. The other colors they're thinking of releasing would give a real selection of choices (without having to purchase a bunch of face plates). I'm also fond of the blue light. ^_^
arrow Graphics: [Uh, does anyone have this information? sweatdrop I thought I did, but it may have just been a rumor, anyway. PM me if you know.] arrow Sound: [see "Graphics"]
arrow Games: Talk of Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc. (3/3); not many 3rd party Well, we really don't know much, but we do know of what I have listed. That's it.
arrow Gameplay: [We haven't actually seen the games!]
arrow Online Gaming/Features: (3/3) It is a bit unfair to give it third, but, once again, we really only know the very surface. I do like the idea of downloading any game from the NES to N64 era, though. I hope it's a free service (so the rumors have said)!
arrow [Biased] Overall Rating: (3/3) Let me start by saying, I love Nintendo. I love their games, their ideas, their systems, their plans, but I just don't know enough to say, "This is t3h c00l3st console eva!" I'm sure when the controller's design is released, questions will be answered and a new door will open for us all. I'm expecting great things from the tiny console, and I don''t think they'll let me (or any other Nintendo supporter) down in the future.
arrow Name: Xbox 360 (1/2) The single reason it isn't the Xbox 2: Microsoft didn't want it to sound behind the PS3.
arrow First Appearance: An MTV special (3/3) A poor choice of publicizing, I say. According to a gaming site, most of the people attending the release just came to see The Killers (I like that band, but hey.), and a good percentage of them didn't know what the Xbox 360 was. O_o
arrow Physical Appearance: (2/3) Sleek and pretty cool design. It looks kind of like a hard drive, though. The controller sports a few new features, but not enough for me to get thrilled on.
arrow Graphics: Custom ATI Graphics Processor- 500 MHz; 10 MB embedded DRAM; 48-way parallel floating-point dynamically-scheduled shader pipelines; Unified shader architecture [info from gamespy.com] (2/2) Impressive - at least, compared to what the Xbox was. The PS3 is a notch above this from what we know. If it's used correctly, you never know what could happen.
arrow Sound: [Not enough info available for me to evaluate; I need to see some better examples for this.]
arrow Games: Basic Xbox 360 Game Listing [ign.com] (1/3) We sure have a lot of sequels in the wing, no? They're everywhere! (ahhhhh...) I'm disappointed by the lack of original, exclusive titles. Sure, what they have is nice, but there isn't one, "Oh my gosh! I've never, ever seen something like that before!" All I ask of developers here before I'm impressed - find a way to make me shake with pure excitement. It's possible. But at least they have a lineup ready to go.
arrow Gameplay: (2/2) ... isn't too innovating. You have you shooters, your racers, your RPGs, etc., but nothing that is too "next-gen". We may just not know enough yet (and I may just be biased). I'm more impressed with the PS3 here.
arrow Online Gaming/Features: Instant, out-of-the-box access to Xbox Live features, including Xbox Live Marketplace for downloadable content, Gamer Profile for digital identity and voice chat to talk to friends while playing games, watching movies or listening to music; Built in Ethernet Port Wi-Fi Ready: 802.11 A, B and G; Video Camera Ready [info from gamespy.com] (1/3) It sounds pretty awesome, but a good chunk of the various things you can do online must be paid for. Still. Why must they torture us? *sniff* I think I'll manage.
arrow [Biased] Overall Rating: (2/3) Pretty neat. I think this will be on my "to get" list this coming winter. I'm still looking in a different direction, though, overall.
All I have to do now is the PS3. Here goes nothing (literally)...
