"Saskue, No! Don't bother- I'm not worth it!"

A pink headed teen was on her knees, beaten after a vicious battle. Shaking and sputtering, she collapsed on the ground.

"Sakura, no, you need help!"

The raven haired boy was feeling incredibly helpless, his expertise was not that of a medic-nin, like Sakura's.

He had tried to convince her to heal herself, but her chakra was incredibly low, she couldn't help herself without possibly killing herself.

Sasuke had been stupid, underestimating the opponent's ability to judge what was close to his heart.

He had thought that being cold, cut off, even mean to her would keep her safe. It had turned out to be his downfall, however. The distance had made his heart yearn for her, but he had to stay strong. He was only on this earth, his only purpose to was avenge. But Sakura, and Naruto had changed his path.

Yes, he had gone to Orochimaru, but he had not stayed. He had learned, he had been punished.

"Eh- Ah- " A long, piercing scream cut through the tense air. His head was brought back to earth, Sakura's eyes tight and her fists clenched, she writhed upon the dirst floor.

Sasuke was pinned on top of her, keeping her from hurting herself further. He heard footsteps in the distance. They were slow, cautious.

"Get the hell over here," Sasuke yelled, with fury. Sakura's opponent had been long finished, by he the avenger himself.

When I see your smile, tears run down my face, I can't replace.

He remembered hiding in the bushes when Sakura was little, as he was also.

"Hey everyone, guess who I like!"

"What are we, mind readers?"

"Don't tell me it's Sasuke!"

She had been crestfallen, her ribbon slipping out of her hair, He had wanted so badly to tie it back for her, To tell her he liked her too, but the one word that kept him on his path kept him from making a sound.

Avenger.

Ino had came to the rescue. Sakura had been restored, only to be knocked down again when she found out her best friend liked him too.

But they kept pushing, and even though she was a tad obsessive, he knew she truly cared. After the first fight with Itachi, he had been knocked cold, and she hadn't left his bedside for the time he was there.

He had known, because of Naruto. He had told him that he had better avenge fast, because Sakura might not always be there.

But now that I'm stronger, I've figured out, that this world turns cols and breaks through my soul, and I know I'll find deep inside me, I can be the one.

Before that, when Sakura had tried to tell the teachers about his curse mark, he had stopped her, suffered through the pain alone.

During the exams even, she had fought to protect him. With her life, she had given up everything for him, and Naruto.

I will never let you fall, I'll stand up for you forever, I'll be there for you through it all, even if savin you sends me to heaven.

A whimper escaped her lips, and as Sasuke heard the footsteps recede, he picked her up, and started running through the forest, running through the bloodied path that had lead her to her deathbed.

Passing a Sakura tree almost made him stop. But he didn't. Things ran through his head, ran through it like lightning.

As he ran, he saw the Konoha Hospital in the distance. He sprinted the last, small distance, and he ran inside.

"Get Tsunade, get a room, get help now!"

Sasuke's orders were followed, Sakura was one of the prized medic-nins of the village that they couldn't afford to lose.

Stroking her hair as he laid her in the hospital bed, he waited anxiously for Tsunade to come.

It's okay, It's okay, It's okay.

She had come running in, Sakura was, after all, one of Tsunade's students.

An instant green chakra filled the room as Sasuke was ushered out of it, a yelling Tsunade against a furious Sasuke.

"Damnit Sakura, Damnit," was all Sasuke heard as he was pushed out of the room by

Seasons are changing, and waves are crashing, and stars are falling all for us. Days grow longer, and nights grow shorter. I can show you, I'll be the one.

He waited for several long hours after he was shooed out of the room. Sitting against the wall, he stared straight ahead, the avenger finally having nothing to avenge.

Sakura had protected him. She had jumped in front of him when he had least expected it, suffering Itachi's final blow, meant to kill Sasuke, but gravely injuring Sakura instead.

He had been to surprised to do anything but stand there, not even to push her out of the way. He had stood there, like an idiot.

He had avenged his clan, and parent's death after that, of course, but it wasn't hard. Sakura had taken the blow. She had known how important it was to him.

I will never let you fall, I'll stand up with forever, I'll be there for you through it all, even if savin' you sends me to heaven.

Falling asleep against the wall, Sasuke was met in a dream.

It was a barren land he was in, wasted and peopleless. Except for he and an unblemished, emreald eyed girl who was sitting on the ground, shaking.

"Sa- Sakura?" Was all Sasuke could say.

"Wh- What are you d- doing here?" Sakura had managed to choke out.

"Sakura, what's happening?"

"Sasuke, I think I have to leave." The strangest thing about this, was that Sakura was calm. Her face was streaked with dirty tears, but she wasn't crying now.

"No, Sakura, Fight! For- For me!" Sasuke reached a hand out to touch, but his hand only grasped air.

Cause you're my, you're my, my true love, please don't throw that away. Cause I'm here for you, please don't walk away, please tell me you'll stay.

"Sasuke, how? There's nothing left in me. I'm as good as dead. Besides, it doesn't matter if I die. You've fullfilled your duty, and I've fullfilled mine."

Sasuke was lost. Her duty? She had no duty but to herself! To keep herself safe!

'I knew since I knew what you were avenging, I had to make sure I protected you, to be your gaurdian angel."

Sasuke was astonished.

"But Sasuke, now it has to be your turn."

"No- Sakura, I need you with me. It's not your time to leave." But as these words left his mouth, her image was fading, but then other ghost like figures appeared. The fourth Hokage, his parents, and so many others who had died supporting him, and Sakura. They were urging her, but she was fighting back.

Use me as you will, Pull my strings just for a thrill, and I know I'll be okay, though my skies are turning grey.

"I can't, it hurts to much, sensei, please don't make me, I can't go back! I can't!" More nudges from the pearly figures.

"Go, Sakura, it's not your time."

"Sakura, the pain might be bad, but they need you. He needs you."

She was calming, the eye of the storm receding.

She took baby steps.

Simple, baby steps towards Sasuke.

She reached out her hand, and he did the same.

Their fingertips brushed, and Sasuke was being shaken gently by Tsunade, a stoic look on her face.

"She's out of the woods. She's sleeping now."

A breath that Sasuke didn't know he had been holding had escaped him. Breathing deeply again, he asked with his same cold voice- piercing Tsunade's eyes.

"I'm going to see her now, right?"

Another gentle smile, and a nod to the door.

As he got up, a hand caught his shoulder.

"If in the future, if you are ever this careless again with my old student, I will hunt you down."

A squeeze to a shoulder, a nod to the fifth hokage, and a few steps later, he was by Sakura's bedside.

The emerald eyes opened once more, tired and heavy-lidded, found Sasuke's.

"Sa-suk-e- don't- ever avenge- another clan's- death.

I may not be able- to manage next- time."

"You won''t have to worry. I'll be your gaurdian angel."
