Bury your Dead
And let them sleep.
Pass on the mourners
And let them weep,
For their time has come
To forsake this Life,
To pass on their pains
And unending strife.
Bury your Dead,
Let them not be forgotten
Even when their corpse
Is rank and rotten
Though their physical self
May not be there,
Let their spirit
Fill the air.
Bury your Dead
For the time has now come
To prepare your soul
For a world gone numb,
For a Life full of hatred
And a universe of darkness;
For hearts full of sins;
For Death and its starkness.
Bury your Dead
For your time now draws near,
But there’s no need to fret
And no need to fear,
For this time comes
I everyone’s Life
When they, too,
Must pass on their strife.
Bury your Dead
And tell everyone goodbye,
For your day has now come
To lay where they lie.
Have you told those you love
The extent of how you care?
Have you let your beloved one know
That you’ll always be there?
Have you said all you needed to say?
Are you really ready to die?
Now that you’re lying here,
Can you really say goodbye?
There are no other opportunities.
Death is the final straw.
There are no second chances;
This is Death’s highest law.
So before you become the Dead
That others must put away,
Make peace with your Life
And say what you have to say.
For your time has come
To forsake this Life,
To ease your pains
And end your strife.

- I love this. I do realize you added it last year, but I came across it now and I really like it.

- Ah~ I see now. I looked for lyrics that contain "Bury" and "Dead" 133 results popped up under 2pac, Neil young, Jo Dee Messina, etc. Seems like there is just a lot of lyrics that have to do with death and setting aside your grievances for the dead. I understand why it may seem familiar. I assure you, though, my poem is original, based on my own experiences and reflections.

- Afraid not. I wrote it some time after my mom died. I was trying to "put the dead away" and move on. But I'd imagine it would make a neat song.
