Nevermore Ozkavosh
Appears Male - 4.5 Billion Years - Shadowy Entity - Heterosexual - Soul Collector
Role| Antagonist; Neutral Chaotic Alignment
Name and Aliases| Nevermore or Shadow Fiend; its last name, "Ozkavosh", means "being" or "demon" in its ancient language.
Birth Information| Nevermore was "born" 100 Million years after the Earth had just formed. This happened after its shadow wisp had crossed the first mana pool that had leaked to Earth's surface.
Appearance| Nevermore's long hidden true form: [x]
[-]Height: 7'2"
[-]Weight: N/A; Shadows cannot be weighed
[-]Hair: N/A
[-]Skin: N/A; Feels more like a husk when made contact with
[-]Eyes: N/A; Holes within the apparent "skull" glow with a sharp Red-Orange
[-]Body Build: No Muscle; Again, seems like an empty husk
[-]Affiliated With: Illuminati
Has not used that form since the turn of the 19th Century. It has kept its identity secret as such: [Art to be acquired later]
[-]Height: 6'3"
[-]Weight: 185lbs
[-]Hair Color: Black; Gray/White streaks
[-]Hair Length/Style: Uneven cut, hair never reaching past its cheeks
[-]Skin: Blackened; Rough Texture
[-]Eyes: None
[-]Body Build: Most of its body is that of a young adult man, healthy muscles and all; its arms and hands, however, are incomplete and are formed by shadowy limbs, often mistaken as "frostbite". They feel like real hands, but look nothing like them. Through these is where Nevermore absorbs and collects souls. In addition, Nevermore is not fleshy. If a blunt object was to make contact with it, it'd flex like flesh, but would have the sound of contact echo throughout its body.
[-]Defining Features: Nevermore, being an entity of shadows, is capable of controlling shadow essence, that is the material that living shadows are composed of, to its whim. Nevermore's shadow essence supply is summoned through its hands and/or greaves. Its teeth, in this form, are razor sharp; shark-like, if you will. As for it having no eyes, it's quite simple. In its original form, Nevermore never actually had a face, but rather a skull. This "head" had no eyes. It simply had a lower mandible and an upper head portion. Its "eyes" were nothing more than holes in the skull, but they were simply aesthetic, no functionality. Therefore, to keep to a somewhat canon look, Nevermore refused to form eyes for its humanoid form.
Clothing| Its clothing has changed over the years, matching the era. Its current outfit is a black, leather-type jacket that is layered over a gray long sleeve shirt. Attached to the jacket is a cloth hood, which it has merely for show and nothing else. Over all of this, over its chest, it has a black, scale-layered chestplate that it refuses to explain why it has to others it meets. It'd rather them find out on their own then try to explain why it must wear this armor piece. On its lower half, it wears a pair of dark, patched pants that show signs of wear and tear over the course of time it has been on the planet. Just like its personal creation, Nocturne, it was unable to complete its lower half, mainly its feet. To compensate for this, it wears a pair of steel greaves that house what would be its feet. Due to its feet still being shadowy wisps, shadow essence tends to leak out of the greaves from the portions where the greaves layer. It is also commonly found with an old, black field cap which it refuses to remove voluntarily.
Personality| Nevermore's personality can be described with a few traits:
[-]Self-Centered
[-]Confident
[-]Show Off
[-]Cocky
[-]Selfish
[-]Comedic
[-]Protective
[-]Curious
"Ozh icha gluth izh sol." (I will eat your soul.)
(More quotes along with their Audio can be found here. Yes, I was inspired by a Game Character to make this. No, its story is not the same. Also, the audio is for its true form. It's human form voice can be found here.)
Likes and Dislikes| Nevermore enjoys itself more than anything, as well as its favorite pre-demon/succubi creation, Nocturne (which is, in reality, its "son" wink . It indulges itself in its collection of souls and would kill to retrieve any of them if they were stolen. In general, however, Nevermore's likes and dislikes vary from time to time.
Hobbies/Habits| Collecting souls, learning from the side, etc. Nevermore has a vendetta for Lucifer.
Arsenal| Nevermore is equipped with a Shadow Bow that is capable of shooting shadow bolts that it supplies itself with by condensing shadow essence into arrow-shaped projectiles. The bolts fly much faster than most bow ammunition and deal magic damage. Depending on the range and focus of Nevermore, the bolts have been known to clear entire rows of trees from the sheer power driving the bolts. In the case of Nevermore needing a higher rate of fire, the bow can be shifted into a Crossbow of sorts, still having very much the same properties and appearance as the Bow, but able to shoot in bursts rather than in single shots.
Special Abilities and/or Skills| Nevermore's abilities are strictly magic, seeing as it created Nocturne to be the more physically engaging assassin it is.
Shadowraze:
[-]A magic based ability that allows Nevermore to set an area aflame with shadows. It is able to cast this ability up to 3 times within a 15 second interval before it is forced to let it recharge on a short cooldown. Each individual raze deals a large amount of damage, but costs much of Nevermore's mana pool. Shadowraze is commonly used when attempting to finish off an enemy.
Necromastery
[-]A Passive magic based ability that allows Nevermore to collect and harvest souls from fallen foes. Each soul grants him a tiny bit of strength and addition to his mana pool. Over the years, Nevermore has collected hundreds upon thousands of souls, making him a formidable foe in combat.
Living Shadow
[-]A Passive ability that allows Nevermore to escape from danger by sinking into nearby shadows. When near shadows, Nevermore is able to take the form of these shadows and give him apparent "stealth". The only traceable thing about Nevermore when it is like this is its aura.
Shadow Prison
[-]A magic based ability that allows Nevermore to engulf an opponent in shadow essence by latching itself onto the opponent's frame. This can only be done during Living Shadow as it requires Nevermore to be in a dematerialized form. Upon successfully latching onto an opponent, Nevermore will engulf the opponent in itself and cause their conscious to be imprisoned within the Spectre, forced to fight off Nocturne for the time being. If the opponent is defeated by Nocturne or attempts to mentally escape, the opponent will immediately be paralyzed physically, allowing Nevermore to siphon their soul without interference. Fighting Nocturne within the Spectre will not cause physical harm, but fighting it in reality can result in such. Shadow Prison can be disrupted in its early stage. As Nevermore begins to engulf an opponent, they are still conscious and can knock away Nevermore with a spell that can do so. During the Soul Siphon, only outside sources of similar knock-away spells can stop this, not the victim of this late stage. This ability is used sparingly as it leaves Nevermore extremely vulnerable, but it is its most silent way of killing a target.
Shadow Essence
[-]A Passive ability that allows Nevermore to constantly supply itself with Shadow Bolt ammo for its Shadow Bow. Since Nevermore considers itself one of the most powerful sources, it uses its own essence to use as ammunition for its weaponry. It does this by condensing shadow essence into shadow bolts to be used like arrows.
Shadow Tempest
[-]An AoE Magic ability for Nevermore's Shadow Bow. When used, Nevermore fires a single, but rather large, shadow bolt into the sky. Upon reaching a certain height, the bolt will detonate and cause a storm of shadow bolts to rain down upon the area below. Each bolt deals less damage than a normal bolt being fired from the Shadow Bow, but targets can be hit multiple times.
Soul Siphon
[-]A single target Magic ability. Using its Shadow Bow, Nevermore fires a special shadow bolt at an enemy. The bolt travels a lot slower than normal, so it requires a lot more focus to be able to land. If the bolt is to make contact with a target, Nevermore will immediately begin to siphon the targets soul from its living body. This effect can be stopped by disrupting the siphon by disrupting Nevermore's concentration. If it is not stopped, the target will have its soul sucked directly out of its body and into Nevermore's collection.
Requiem
[-]Nevermore's signature ability. Gathering up the strength of its collected souls, Nevermore unleashes a wave of shadows that tears the souls away from his victims, as well as their flesh. Rarely has it had to use this in order to finish off an opponent. This ability comes with a cost of more than half of its mana pool and leaves it vulnerable to counterattacks while it channels the ability for 3 seconds. During this channel, Nevermore's true form can be seen. This has a cooldown of a whole day and leaves Nevermore vulnerable as it must recollect a good amount of souls to replace those which were used to empower this ability.
Requiem of Souls
[-]An improved, more deadly version of Requiem which Nevermore has yet to perfect, no one knows what this ability is able to do yet or its effects on Nevermore itself...
Flaws and/or Fears| Nevermore has been disguised as a humanoid so long that it has begun to develop human emotions and behavior, though it doesn't mind it completely. The chestplate that it wears is to prevent the hollow cavity that houses its souls from being breached easily. Nevermore is also very reliant on its souls as they empower it. It fears losing its collection of souls before its ultimate goal is accomplished.
General Education| Self-Educated through experience and experimentation.
Religious Beliefs| It believes in itself; in contrast to other Hellborn beings, Nevermore believes that the true power of souls does not come from absorbing them, but rather from holding on to them, keeping them very much preserved. While the power that derives from them is weak in this form, it is plentiful as Nevermore has collected many souls thus far. The true goal for why it is doing this is still unknown.
Family and Relationships| [-]Nocturne; "born" within the Spectre (Nightmare Realm) that resides within Nevermore's mind.
[-]Killara Leerstrom; a rogue Magus Ascendent who'd captured Nevermore's attention in more ways than one. She was one of the few who tried to copulate with Nevermore, unsuccessfully of course. She is also the only non-shadow entity who is able to manipulate shadow essence due to a gift from Nevermore; Oddly enough, the Magus and the Shadow expressed interest in each other later on, leading to their Shadow Bond/Engagement and eventually their Marriage. The Magus took on Nevermore's implied last name, Ozkavosh.
Origin and History| It is said that the universe began as nothing more than a single particle that expanded into what we know now. It is also said that Humans were the first intelligible beings to make their appearance on this planet: Earth. While it is somewhat inaccurate to believe this, it is not necessarily wrong to do so, for if one was to know what existed before the recording of knowledge, one would begin to ponder upon the question, "What am I really?"
In truth, at the start of this world, nothing existed past shadows and destruction from the ever changing young Earth. Though some would say paranormal activity did not begin to exist until the formation of the Heavens and Hell, it is with pleasure that Nevermore tell them otherwise. Nevermore was once just a simple shadow, nothing more, nothing less. It wasn't until this shadow came across the first mana pool that happened to leak onto the Earth's surface that Nevermore began to manifest itself into a physical, tangible form. From here on out, Nevermore became the first dark being: a shadow entity. As the years past, it began to acquire knowledge, especially when the plains of Heaven and Hell were formed. It even began to learn how to "dream", causing it to create the "Spectre" or "Nightmare Realm", the place which gave "birth" to Nevermore's "son", Nocturne.
Some would say that Hell was created by Lucifer, but much is to be objected about that claim. Nevermore knew Lucifer from his beginnings as a simple, dark wisp that descended from the Heavens as if rejected by the angels. Nevermore raised him and taught him what it knew until Lucifer was able to manifest himself into what people call "the devil", the king of Hell. Nevermore crowned this being under one condition: it was allowed to command the front line of what was soon to be Lucifer's Hell spawn army. The pact was made, the army of hell spawns was formed, and the war between Heaven and Hell commenced. It was at this point Nevermore began to realize the true source of power: the soul. It experimented with Hell spawns and fallen angels, trying to pull the souls from their flesh, but it was no use. It would seem as though the soul was linked to each body and could not be separated unless the body was disintegrated entirely...and that gave Nevermore an idea.
Practicing with dark magics and its own powers, Nevermore began to develop its own abilities capable of taking souls from victims with ease. With Lucifer's now growing power, Nevermore felt as though he would try to kill it in order to gain absolute power. It wouldn't allow it. For decades, Nevermore harvested souls from hell spawns and demons alike until it was finally able to thwart Lucifer's plans, but it was too late. Lucifer had learned of this as well as the Heavens. Neither of the two would allow such a dark being to gain access to power that would allow it to overthrow Heaven and Hell. So, for the one time in either of the two's existence, they worked together to banish Nevermore to the farthest reaches of space and time...
But one cannot simply rid the universe of a shadow entity. As millennium upon millennium passed by, Nevermore awaited an opportunity to return to whence it originated: Earth. As a stray meteorite passed it by, it anchored itself to it in hopes of it traveling a path directly back to Earth. It was lucky, but it took millions of years before the meteorite finally traveled a path that would cause imminent impact with the planet. Nevermore would soon be home...
The absence of the Shadow Fiend had allowed Heaven and Hell to play out the world as they intended. The year was now 1776, post-American Revolution. The Declaration of Independence had been signed. The men in charge of the newly found country, the United States of America, had even adopted a song written in commemoration to the war as their national anthem. What the composer of the song was unable to say was what it was really about due to fear of rejection by society. The line "The rockets' red glare" was the revealing line. While held prisoner on that ship, he noticed something odd in the sky: a trail of fire heading to make impact with the Earth not too far from the battle. The fighting raged on until the Patriots came out on top, rescuing any prisoners aboard the ship. The composer requested someone take the song to the country's leaders and ask them what they thought, but their real interest laid nestled over the hill in a flaming crater. Escorted by a group of 10 soldiers, the composer traveled down into the crater to find out what exactly had crashed into his beloved country's ground. What he found was a small meteorite, but he was unaware of what was about to happen.
The red flames began to turn black, and the area around the meteor became dark, almost as if a dome of darkness had just encapsulated them all. The soldiers who were assigned to guard the composer all lined up before him as to protect him. A dark haze slipped from the meteorite and began to form into a tangible being, another shadowy wisp seen floating beside it, but the soldiers stood ready for any threat. As the "shadow" finished up its formation, it spread its bony wings and its red-orange aura lit up. It floated there, silent, that is until one worried soldier fired a shot at it. The bullet penetrated, but didn't make contact. It merely flew through the being, impacting into the ground behind it. The being then took in a deep breath, or what they believed was a breath, and spoke, "...Izh hedoq..." Only the composer recognized the language it spoke and couldn't help but ask, "H-hunger for what?" The dark being chuckled as it moved its fingers slowly, "...Izh sols..." The dark being then raised its arms and hands up rapidly, palms to the sky, and set the soldiers aflame with a dark, shadowy raze. Their bodies disintegrated in front of the composer's eyes and he witnessed what he believed were their souls slowly floating into the being's open chest cavity, circling endlessly. The dome encapsulating the crater seemed to disappear and the composer ran as fast as he could to escape the being. Nevermore had finally made his presence a reality.
Years passed and groups formed, along with the devious cult named the Illuminati who believed that what the composer saw that night was the devil himself. More wars were fought and many went missing without notice. Little did everyone know, Nevermore was there in the shadows, harvesting souls when presented the opportunity. But this method was risky. It made it hard to harvest souls at a consistent rate. So, Nevermore began to examine these "humans", behavior and physical appearance. By the start of the 19th Century, Nevermore had finally perfected what it believed was the perfect human form. It took on this form, taking the appearance of a young man and continuing to harvest even more souls at a more consistent and discrete rate. Though Nevermore hates to admit it, it enjoyed being a "human". It learned how to speak the human tongue, taking in English as its primary disguised language.
Two centuries later today, Nevermore has accustomed itself to society, being viewed as a possessed human. It changed clothing to match the era and continues its usual business. The consequence, however, is it being unable to willfully return to its original form on top of developing what it believed were a human nervous system and, with much disgust to itself, human emotions. It has fallen in love for short periods of time before collecting the souls of those who thought its feelings were genuine. It has developed rivalries and grudges against opponents who's lives it has taken. It has even tried to bare a child once, but how can a simple living shadow do such a thing? As time goes on, Nevermore finds itself confused, but it remains persistent in its original mission: harvest souls in order to strike back at those who banished it from Hell.
As this trend continued, Nevermore felt as though it was becoming too integrated into society, feeling more and more human-like. It didn't want this. It had large plans to execute and becoming another pedestrian would surely cause it to backtrack. Nocturne was now loyal to it and it alone, as well as developed in its combat abilities. It was time for them to retreat, and they did. They traveled to lands far from human society, preferring the rural outbacks of the world.
There would be a time where the two would seclude themselves in a cave far off in a secluded forest, hoping to not be disturbed while they conducted their business. They did not require nutrition or any of the other accommodations that most beings required, though a small fire was always welcome. It is here that Nevermore and Nocturne perfected their already powerful abilities and combat skills. During this time is also when Nevermore forged its shadow bow, perfecting the art of condensing its shadow essence into dangerous bolts to be used as projectiles, as well as the extremely resilient chest plate that it refuses to unequip. Its marksmanship, once mastered, was beyond that of many. The sheer power behind Nevermore's use of this weapon was massive, and still is. But this wasn't enough for Nevermore. It needed something more to be able to properly execute its final plan, but more souls were needed. It'd take an extremely long time to do it, but perhaps maybe it could improve upon its already most powerful spell...
So, the two collaborated and investigated ways to improve upon it. To this day, they're still unsure of how, but what was even more obvious was the lack of entertainment from being alone in the cave. They'd then travel, coming across many agents sent by Lucifer himself to try and eliminate Nevermore, but Lucifer was unaware that the solo had now become a duo. It was going to take a lot more than just succubi and demons to stop these two now, but patience is a virtue, and Lucifer was willing to be patient for Nevermore and Nocturne to come to him eventually, even if it took longer than he anticipated.

So, if you are to encounter the Shadow Fiend and believe you will not have your soul taken at some point, remember the phrase, "Never say Nevermore."
