This decade saw some of the greatest achievements, and some of the greatest tragedies, of our lifetimes. We saw war, famine, recession, the destruction of great landmarks of this nation. Truly, the first decade of the second millennium AD was not a golden start. Yet out of the ashes of this, we have built ourselves a shelter from the storm. This decade also saw great advancements in technology and science, advancements that will form the basis of our society in years to come. We have come forward so far it is amazing to think that a mere ten years back 75% of the technology we take for granted was either nonexistent or in its infancy. True, we saw one of the greatest blunders of our political system take the reins, but then, we also saw the first black president take over. Musically this country, let's face it, fell on its face compared to earlier years, but the potential is there. Our mistakes and our triumphs have formed the building blocks for the new decade and decades to come that await us. We as a race, as the human race, must rise from our infancy, for we are yet children in the eyes of the world, and learn to cope with both our egos and those of our peers. These years ahead are crucial. We will either adapt to our self-made hardships and those that are independent, or we shall perish. But if there is one thing I know, it is that the greatest endeavors of this species are wrought in dark times, from the desire to rise above the mire of incompetence. So all together, we must work to build ourselves a brighter, better, and happier future for us and our posterity. We, the people of the United States, and indeed the world, in order to provide a more perfect union, establish general welfare, and provide life and liberty to ourselves and our posterity, must construct it for us. It will be hard, and we may fall along the way. But we will rise and continue, for it is our spirit. The human spirit. And no dark years can take that away from us. God Bless Us All.
