She curses sunny days With heat and sweat trickling down her forehead Before she goes to bed everynight She prays for rain to soothe her And when it comes She shines her brightest
The first chance she receives She's out standing in a clearing Head tilted toward the heavens If she's crying as she well might be The rain masks her tears Or washes them away
And she laughs like I've never heard before Because the rain sleeks back her hair Clothes sticking to her form Like she has showered in them There isn't a soul to bother her When it is raining for her
She'll laugh and say come join me As she dances and twirls her skirt She's never looked more beautiful Than she does when it rains She extends a hand to me To join her tearful bliss
And so when I go to bed at night I now pray for rain But not for me, for the girl I know And the light that flickers inside of her When heaven poors rain for her The girl who loves the rain
People ask me what's wrong Why does she lean against the love of most I shrug and say why go along When you can be happier loving more They ask who I am referring to I smile and say, The Girl in the Rain.
