Phase 1-0: No Moon The Vampire’s Curse is a curse and a deadly disease. Its victims are humans. To contract this deadly disease is rare, however. The only way to pass this disease on is to be a vampire. Their bites hold the venom for the disease and once it is contracted the victim is cursed. Any unfortunate human who encounters a vampire and is bitten by it would most likely die from being sucked dry. Once vampires begin to suck blood, they cannot stop themselves. However, there are cases of some humans surviving and those humans who are bitten become vampires themselves. That is how to contract the Vampire’s Curse. The Curse gives you eternal life, but also the constant need for human blood. There are some vampires that fight that need, but there are also some that are ruled by it. Those who fight the need feast on animals instead and occasionally human food. For a vampire, they are not very appetizing and that kind of diet does not quench their thirst at all. It is like having to live hungry all the time, yet food that you are forbidden to eat lives all around you just tempting you. Vampires that are ruled by their bloodlust lose their way of thinking and are like walking zombies that can only think of eating. When exposed to the sun, vampires slowly start to rot. The rotting speed becomes faster the more human blood is in a vampire. The sun is one of the few ways vampires can be killed. Though, only direct sunlight will affect them. If a vampire is inside a building or anything, even if the sun hits them through a window, they will still be untouched and will not rot unless they have human blood in them. Vampires can regenerate their bodies. Complete darkness helps them regenerate faster. Although the have eternal life because of the curse, vampires can still be killed. Garlic, if it comes in contact with them, turns their bodies into ashes. Fire is also something that can kill them. Religious piety also kills them. If a vampire walks into an area with strong religious piety, they start to turn into ashes. Each vampire share the physical characteristics of fangs and bat wings which they can choose to hide or not. When a vampire lusts for blood, their eyes become a crimson red. They all have unnatural strengths and are all pale but beautiful creatures. They also differ from each other. There are moments for some vampires to crave blood so much they can’t stand it. For some, it can be on their birthday. For others the craving could even be on Christmas. It differs for each. There is a way to break the Vampire’s Curse. It is different for each vampire though. There are some cases of the curse being broken. If a vampire breaks their curse, they become human once more but their descendents must always house vampires that do not let their actions be controlled by their lust for blood. If they fail to do so, they become vampires. That is the Vampire’s Curse…
Phase 1-1: New Moon He is coming… Alexander Snow. My dad informed my family that a vampire was being sent to live with is. Since the Blood family was descendents of a vampire that broke their curse, we are obligated to house vampires that fight against their lust for human blood. Anyways, Alexander Snow is a vampire who probably died when he was 17 because my dad told me he was going to attend our high school and will be in the senior year. My mom’s really worried about him living with us since he’s a boy and my sister, Ariel, and I are girls. Ariel is sixteen and I’m fourteen. I was a little disappointed that Alexander had to play as a guy older than me because that still makes me the youngest of the household. My mom put garlic in all of our rooms except Alexander’s just in case he goes berserk. Alexander’s room doesn’t have a window, so that he can recover fast when we have sunny days. His excuse for living with us to the school is that he is the son of a dear friend of my dad’s whose family had a tragic accident. I don’t see why we couldn’t have just said he was our cousin. I guess Dad doesn’t want to say he’s related to us. The car pulled up at the airport. An extremely pale boy came walking out towards us with one suitcase in his hand. My dad went out and spoke with him. Then, he took his suit case and was pitting it in the back of our car. Alexander entered and sat beside me. He sat the farthest possible from me and faced towards the window. Ariel was examining him and I just stared at my tightly balled fists in my tense sitting position. Alexander was gorgeous! He was very tall, his black hair was grown out, and, of course, he was very, very pale. “Wouldn’t you want to sit in the middle, away from the sun?” Arial asked him, but I knew she just wanted to sit next to him. “It does not hurt that much.” he answered, without moving an inch. His voice was low and rich. I could just melt just listening to it! My father was getting into the car and was driving us home. Then Alexander turned forward to face my parents. “I thank you for having me. I apologize for all the trouble I am imposing on you.” he said. My mom forced a smile from her front seat as she turned to face him. My dad said nothing. “Speak nothing of it.” she said with a fake pleasant voice. After that, she turned away. Alexander faced towards the window again. I was appalled with how rude my family was being. I heaved a sigh. If no one would do it, I would! I turned to Alexander. “Alexander?” I said, feeling nervous. Alexander turned to face me. His beautiful, golden, amber eyes seemed to stare right through me. “I’m sorry, we’re being rather rude. We didn’t introduce ourselves yet.” I began. I waved a hand at my dad. “He’s my dad, Merium Blood.” Then I waved at my mom. “That’s my mom, Linda Blood.” Next, I waved to Ariel. “This is my sister-” “Ariel.” Ariel interrupted me, pasting on a sweet smile. I gave a nod and then turned fully to Alexander. “And I am Renee Blood.” I told him. He gave me a polite nod. “It’s a pleasure.” he said. After that, the rest of the car ride was all in silence. Pretty soon, we were home. My mom made me be the one to show Alexander his room since I was the one acting friendly. Ariel threw me an envious look, as I led Alexander upstairs to his room. The two of us wordlessly traveled up the stars. I went over to his room and opened the door for him. “Here it is.” I replied, seeing the room for the first time in a long time. It was pitched black though, so I really couldn’t see anything. “Alexander walked in and se this suitcase down beside the door. He was examining the room. Then he turned to me. His amber eyes flickered red for a brief moment, but quickly reverted back to amber. “There are small traces of blood in here.” he told me. “I’m sorry. We tried cleaning it as best as we could.” I answered my face apologetic. “I’m sorry if you can still scent it.” He wordlessly gazed back into his new room. “The last vampire that lived in there was very weak against his need… we did the best we could to help him but… he became berserk.” I explained, and then thought bitterly in my mind, “…berserk for my blood.” He gave me a distrait nod, showing me that he was listening (barely). I pushed my bangs out of my face, impatient to leave. “If there are any problems in your room feel free to call me.” I said but in my head I thought, ‘but get the hint and call Ariel instead.’ “Actually, there is a problem.” Alexander sighed. “There is garlic in this room.” He flicked open the light switch so that I could see. Hesitantly, I followed him into the room. Alexander seemed to sniff in the air, reluctantly, and then he pushed open the closet. There was a huge puff of garlic that came out at us, and I quickly started to wave it away fro Alexander. Alexander’s arm started to turn into ashes despite my efforts. Alexander stepped back and looked at the closet with derision. He brushed off the ashes and glared at me accusingly. All I was thinking at that moment was, ‘Stupid Ariel! She forgot to clean the most important area! The garlic that had long been trapped in the closet started to spread our. Without warning, I grabbed Alexander’s only arm and dragged him out. I slammed the door shut. I let go of Alexander’s icy arm and leaned over the railing that lined the upstairs floor. “Ariel!” I cried out. I tapped my foot impatiently as Ariel’s footsteps walked towards us. “What?” she asked, as she got upstairs. “You forgot to clean the closet?” I asked her icily. Ariel bit her lip. She looked at Alexander to see if he had been harmed. I gave an exasperated sigh. “The closet?” I repeated. “You forgot to clean the most important area? The place that bloodthirsty vampire was locked up in with a large quantity of garlic?” “Listen, I just forgot. I’ll go and clean it up.” Ariel sighed. “I was about to say something to Ariel when I remembered Alexander was standing right beside me. Ariel, just take Alexander to my room. That’s the next darkest place in this house. I’ll clean it up.” I ordered, going downstairs to get the cleaning supplies. “What’s wrong?” Dad asked as I rummaged through the cleaning supplies in the kitchen. “Ariel forgot to clean the closet.” Before anything else could be said, I was out of the kitchen and was back in Alexander’s room. I couldn’t help a shiver because painful memories started to replay in my head when… I gazed at the vampire’s remains in the closet. A pile of ashes was all that was left of him. Then, I started to clean the room. I didn’t let any spot in the room remain unturned. I walked over the ashes and cleaned the closet. I wanted to rid of them last. I felt as if I was up all night cleaning everything. I even polished Alexander’s suitcase in case garlic got on it. The bed was the last thing I got to. It was really just there for decoration because vampires don’t sleep. Well, let’s say they can’t sleep because if they do, they’ll never wake up again. I stripped off the covers on the bed, and the pillow cases, and hastily threw them out of the room. I cleaned around the bed and even under it and then went over to the covers that I threw out of the room. I heaved them over the railing so that I wouldn’t have to carry them downstairs. I glanced at the clock to see that it was six in the morning. At least yesterday was Saturday. I won’t have to worry about getting ready for school right now because today was a Sunday. “Another day spent without sleep.” I sighed as I headed down the stairs. My family is a family obligated to house vampires that fight their lust for blood, but we are also obligated to hunt vampires that do not. So, every Friday, my family hast to go out and explore the whole city for any prowling vampires. My family holds weapons specifically designed to kill vampires. My father has a huge claymore and my mom has a rapier. My sister has a silver boomerang. It’s as big as she is and it weighs way more than her. Since it was the weapon assigned to her, when she carries it, its weight lessens. Its edges are as sharp as knives, so she has t be very, very careful with it. I have twin daggers. There’s nothing special with them, but it definitely makes me the fastest and most agile. So, that’s why I get no sleep on Fridays. Normally, I catch up on sleep on Saturday, but it seems like I can’t anymore. I dropped off the covers in a laundry basket. I went into my room to see Alexander sitting beside my window with the dark blinds closed. He looked up at me with eyes asking if I was done with his room. “I’m done, but I still have to get the vampire’s remains out.” I informed the pointed to the light switch, “Do you mind?” Alexander shook his head. I flipped the lights on. I noticed that Alexander’s arm was regenerating. His shoulder to his elbow has returned for sure. I went and rummaged through my closet. Where was that…? Then I found it. It was a ceramic coffin I had mad in art class two years ago when the last vampire was here. It was as long as my hand to my elbow and was about two inches wide. I remember presenting it to him as a gift, but he told me to keep it so that when the day comes… it will be ready for his ashes. I remember having hoped not ever picking this up again, but the day inevitably came… although I waited a year too long. “Did you know him well?” Alexander asked, breaking me from my thoughts. “Quite.” I said and then I turned to him. “Your room will be ready very soon.” I walked over to Alexander’s room and went towards the remains. With a slight move of my finger, all the ashes levitated into the ceramic coffin. Levitating vampire ashes was a skill that passed down in my family for generations. It took a lot of practice to master it for all of us. “I’m so sorry.” I sighed and then walked out. First I informed Alexander that his room was done. Then I went outside into my backyard and buried the coffin. I made a mental note in my head to get flowers. To be more specific, his favorite flowers: forget-me-nots. “Promise me this.” his weak voice croaked from behind the barred closet. “Anything.” I confirmed trying to make my voice seem strong even though I wanted to break down in tears. “The next vampire… please give him or her the same-” the sentence was cut off when he grunted in pain and continued after a pause, “…give the same kindness you offered to me…” “I promise… Isaac.” I clenched my fist as I forced the painful memory away. I’m doing the best that I can… I quickly scurried back into the house and into my room. I was exhausted. I threw off my dirty clothes and replaced them with my clean night clothes. I crawled into bed and was soon fast asleep.
