I did my book report on the classic book "The Magicians Nephew," the first book of the conicals of nania series. this book is not as much a book in its self, but the intro to the entire series, it has a unique story line apart from the rest of the series witch people are more commonly know of. The people appear later in the series, but this book shows them as they were when they were younger and this all started, it is the beginning of the beginning of the series. It is a unique book as i have read no other like it, and the author used a very unique writing style that is different from what authors commonly use in their writing, the style is not so unique to the author, just that this series is one of the few books to ever become popular using this style of writing.
As i said, the book is not so much part of the series, but an intro, more of the large prologue for the rest of the books. it sets a mood for the world, and helps show and depict the types of people in the world, and how they react compared to people in our world. i believe that the author wrote this book particularly because they wanted to give a more in depth story to thew world, more than the exact point of time that the rest of the books take place. it depicts the actions that took place to set up the world that is narina in the later books. This book dose in no way affect the reading of the other books, but give a deeper meaning to some of the actions and areas in the later books.
the author use a writing style, that was different from normal books. instead of a first or third person point of view, like we are accustomed, the writer wrote is as if telling a story, this allowed her to give a more personal opinion of the characters in the story, as well as the setting. I personally disliked this writing style, as i like to imagine a story in my mind, but i found it difficult to do with this book because the images were being described to you in very little detail. this story telling style of writing has been used, but readers always looked down upon it, but this book captured it well, as it is one of the most popular books on the market!
In my personal opinion i would not suggest this book to another, i would however, suggest it to someone who has read the other books of the series and would like to know a little more of the history and background of the world that they have read of. This book is a must have for people who love the chroniclers of narnia, but i would not suggest it to a person who knows or cares little about the series and its origins. All in all this book is a good read for lovers of the series, but not for a person looking for a good strory to sit back and enjoy.
