I got the Smashing Pumpkinsʻ new album. I loved their greatest hits album and I was looking to buy Melonchaly and the Infinite Sadness....but then they came out with a new album and I just had to get it.
Well...it turned out to be pretty unsatisfying. But I did get the pre-order itunes version which is packed with covers and an extra song, totalling 18 songs! And now as I listen to it more I guess itʻs a better buy than A Beautiful Lie....yes, you know what Iʻm talking about.
Actually, the album kind of reminds me of NINʻs Year 0. Itʻs about the oh so glorious country of America. It also doesnʻt have just one good song....the good parts are spread out through out the albums. Billy Corgan and Trent Reznor have their own forms of protest against this oh so glorious country and I respect that. While Year 0 is more of a techno alternative shock fest and rather gloomy synth with screachy guitars, Zeitgeist is a more upbeat, alternative pop with screaming guitars and all encompasing keyboards. If you want to spend the whole day (or at least two hours) reflecting the state of the United States of America I suggest you buy both albums. They wonʻt be the best albums in your collection but they will definetely make you think a bit.
So far my favorite songs are Pomp and Circumstances and Thatʻs the Way My Love Is. They are the "happiest" songs on the album...at least thatʻs what I think. Plus The Academy Is...ʻs cover of Mayonaise is top notch.
