Bouncing an idea around, so thought I'd drop a few recipes in the meanwhile. All alcoholic. I don't know enough about non-alcoholic alternatives to these recipes.
That said, each of these are measured to one US standard drink and are what I personally find to be my favorite versions of these drinks. For a double, double the recipe.
(I will come back and edit with more later.~)
Dry Martini Everyone should know how to make a dry martini. This one has juuuust a touch of dryness -- noticeable, but not super dry.
Ingredients
1¼ oz Gin or Vodka ⅓ oz Dry Vermouth Cracked Ice Green olive or lemon twist, for garnish.
Steps
1. Add the gin or vodka and dry vermouth to a mixing glass filled with cracked ice. 2. Stir until well chilled. 3. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. 4. Garnish with a green olive or a twist of lemon peel.
Margarita Very refreshing flavor. You get tartness, sweetness, and the distinct citrus with the earthiness of the tequila. That last step is crucial to add that salty element! Notably, you COULD grab cointreau instead of triple sec, BUT it will have a higher ABV.
Speaking technically, this margarita is 0.95 standard drinks. Basically, not small enough a shortage to notice, but in practical mixing, it's going to be close enough to one standard drink.
Ingredients
1¼ oz Tequila ⅓ oz Triple Sec (30% ABV -- 60-Proof) ¾ oz Fresh Lime or Lemon Juice Cracked Ice Salt, for the rim.
Steps
1. Moisten the rim of a cocktail glass with a piece of the fruit rind. (Ideally the lime or lemon you're going to use for the juice. Citrus is the flavor profile, though, so you can mix/match.) 2. Dip or spin the rim in salt. 3. Add the tequila, triple sec, and fresh lime/lemon juice to a shaker filled with cracked ice. 4. Shake well until chilled. 5. Strain into the prepared cocktail glass. 6. Sip over the salted rim!
Pina Colada Gotta love 'em. Easily a favorite of mine and gives everyone an excuse to always have coconut cream. As with the whiskey collins, I recommend six ice cubes with the same general advice -- seven as the limit here, though, as it's "mostly ice" territory.
Ingredients
1¼ oz Rum (40% ABV) 1 oz Cream of Coconut 2 oz Pineapple Juice ½ Cup of Crushed Ice ~ 6 Ice Cubes 1 Maraschino Cherry, for garnish
Steps
1. Add the rum, cream of coconut, pineapple juice, and crushed ice to a blender. 2. Blend until smooth and well chilled. 3. Pour into a tall glass filled with ice cubes. 4. Garnish with a maraschino cherry.
Whiskey Collins A personal favorite. This uses an 80-proof whiskey -- basically the common 40% ABV whiskey.
Ingredients
1½ oz Whiskey Juice of ¼ Lime ~6 Ice Cubes 7-Up, Sprite, or Starry (Your Preference), to Fill
Steps
1. Mix whiskey and lime juice in a tall glass. 2. Add ice cubes. I recommend six, but you can put five if you want more 7-Up. If you use a particularly tall glass, you can get away with eight. 3. Fill the remainder of the glass with 7-Up (or your preferred alternative). 4. Stir gently. You want to preserve the carbonation!
