Takutai was minding his own business, swimming along, having a perfectly fine - if somewhat dull - day, when he spotted it, through the shadows made by passing clouds, way overhead. He couldn’t tell what gender it was, or even what kind of creature it was - he could tell nothing about it, except that he had never seen anything like it, which meant he had to know more.
So he took off after the figure, keeping a reasonable distance behind as he followed. As he got closer, more details emerged; he was pretty sure it was a fellow Soquili, just - not like one he had ever seen before. He needed more information. Was this a new threat of some kind? Or maybe a new friend?
Taku didn’t have much in the way of friends. He had his familiar, sure, but that was hardly the same. Especially because his familiar with basically a judgy piece of kelpy frill. Yes, Scully claimed that he wanted ‘only the best’ for Takutai and that if he listened to him ‘you would have far fewer problems in your life’ and whatever else, blah blah blah, but he’d never listened to anyone and he wasn’t about to start now, certainly.
“Hey,” Taku called, when the other Soquili came to a stop near a coral bed. “Who goes there?” It wasn’t like he owned this particular reef or anything, but…but…
Okay he didn’t have a justification. But maybe this strange Soquili had bad intentions - if so, maybe his shout would give other Soquili a chance to escape.
Or maybe he was once again sticking his snout where it didn’t belong. Who could say.
