I walked through the snow-
It felt like my feet were being cut with coldness.
Sky white, snow white, and somehow it felt right
to walk in this direction without a compass.
I walked through the storm-
muddy, soaking, rain penetrating my clothes and my skin
barefoot and shivering, my clothes torn.
I walked through the jungle-
conquering all the harmless sounds we make larger than life
with our minds.
With the creepy knowledge that the sun is above you
but you can’t see it, you can’t feel it.
I walked through the fire-
And now I’m certain of which was brighter:
my determination or the flames.
In the end, they flickered out.
I stayed strong.
I walked into your arms, your open, stretched-out-towards-me arms,
and I knew it was all worth it.
