I waited, listening, and my voice rose from the canyon in reply
Realizing my mistakes; wishing ere I knew what I know now;
Of Echo and of Hera’s wrath
And that self-loving, absorbed fool
Who withered, while watching, adoring himself.
‘Twas not my fault, his consuming err
I kindly comforted him, only to be ignored.
Truthfully, I withered with him by his cherished pool
And forevermore will I be a wisp of a reply rising from the canyon.
My dire lesson from the gods is now learned,
That before was pride and a quick tongue.

Description:
A poem based on a Greek myth about a nymph called Echo who falls in love with a man, Narcissus. Hera puts a curse on Echo that makes her only able to repeat the last word she hears. Echo then falls in love with Narcissus, who is in turn in love with his own reflection.
It is in the style similar to Ezra Pound's poem "The Tree."

- I like it. I like the myth it's based on so it's interesting to hear the myth from echo's point of view.
