As I lay here in my bed
I wonder,
"What's it like to be dead?"
I roll over and lay down my head
Is death like a sleep,
But with no counting sheep?
Or is it like a party,
All good and hearty?
My thoughts careen across miles
And finally stops at the Nile
Where a girl stops...
And she drops...
I awake with a start
And try to calm my fast-beating heart
I try to breathe mellow
And I sink back into shadow...
My mind travels leagues
And takes a break at Belize
Where a young woman swims...
And her light dims...
I shake the dreams away
And think of a bay...
Where a man falls...
And nobody hears his calls...
I hold back the tears
And let go of my fears
And I wonder...
"Why?"
I go out on my rounds
To all the different towns
I collect the man, woman, and child
Who have been dead for a while
Nobody sees the dark cloak
Nor the shrivled, bony hands
But those who meet their ends always see
the Black Angel of Death...
...Me...
I wake from my horrible dreams
My ears suddenly seem filled with bees
And nobody hears
My own last dying breath...
