It was a moonlit evening. The beam of light stretching down from the full moon reflected against the waves periodically smashing against the shores of Puerto Rico's finest beach. It was a public beach, but it was desolate at night. The only artificial light came from the highway nearby, and from the occasinal post that lit up the dunes of the beach. In the sand that seemed to stretch on forever, two shadows lied down. On closer inspection, it was a couple, looking for some privacy. Your curiosity perked up, but your manners tell you it's wrong to spy on them.
You overhear feet away:
"Come on, James. Can't we just talk?"
"Oh, fine. Let's have it your way. What's on your mind?"
You decide to listen in, ignoring your manners. You climb up a palm tree, albeit, with some difficulty. They almost heard you as you rustled the leaves of the plant, but they shrugged it off as the wind. The moon gave barely enough light for you to see their figures. James was wearing a brown shirt, with jeans. The girl, had a purple shirt, with another pair of jeans. You heard them begin another conversation.
"Well, James." The girl said shyly, fiddling with the grains of sand at her feet. " I've wanted to be alone with you for a while."
"Why's that?" The boy, and so did I, expected what was coming next.
"This."
You saw the girl tackle the boy to the cool sand, and they rolling around the beach. They kissed with increasing fervor and passion. A lovely sight to behold, that's for sure. You would have stayed up there, if not for your phone beginning to vibrate in your pocket. You cursed under your breath at whoever decided to call them at this moment. The front screen read: -Call from PRIVATE-
You casually tucked the phone back in your pocket, after you sent a message. You assumed the caller was one of those telemarketers. Or maybe a friend wanting to prank call you. In any case, you weren't going to answer. You shifted your position to look back at the couple, being transfixed with their love story.
I saw them stand up again, holding hands. They had rolled under the palm tree I hid in. She then kissed him quickly on his lips, and he held the kiss for a good minute. They stood there, just holding hands, looking at each under the shadow of the palm. I then heard something that utterly ruined the moment.
-You have 1 new text message. You have 1 new text message.-
I was scared to death, and the boy looked casually. I then discovered it came from the girl's pocket, and she was startled , just like I was. I started hearing voices again.
"Who is it, Jenny?"
"I'll go see."
I saw her reach for her pocket, and pull out the phone. It wasn't a flip phone, it was one of those phones that looked like a chocolate bar. She glanced quickly at the sender, and hid the phone back in the pocket before her lover could glance at it.
"Who was it?"
"Just my mother. She wants me here in a hour." I noticed she said this sentence with a nervous tact.
"Gives us just enough time to say sweet nothings to each other, my sweet Jenny." I saw the boy inch closer to her.
For a full fledged half-hour, I saw them kissing, hugging, and heard them say endless compliments to each other. I almost fell asleep from the boredom that started to sink in, if not for what happened next.
Another figure entered the beach. It came close to a lampost, so I could make out he was carrying a box of chocolates around his arm. He started shouting:
"Jenny! Where are you, my sweet?!"
James was not happy. He pushed Jenny to the ground, and she landed with a thud. He managed to drag the cellphone from her pocket, while she was clawing at his shirt, leaving scratch marks on his arms.
Jenny dragged him to the ground.
"It's not what you think!" She whispered forcefully in his ear, and forced the phone from his hands.
"Let me see that text message, then. "
"No!"
He took the phone from her hands again, and ran. As he ran, he began to search for her text messages. The girl fell, and James didn't notice, as he dashed into the water. The cold seawater didn't deter him from reading the text message.

He was mad. I coudn't see his appearance, or less, his face, but I could tell he was mad. He ran to the dark areas of the beach, and continued to run towards the highway. The other guy rushed to the girl, and helped her up. I heard the girl say:
"Help me, John! That guy stole my phone while I waited for you!"
"Where is he?"
"He went that way!" She wailed, pointing towards the highway.
"Let him keep it, then. I can't believe you would cheat on me like that..."
"It wasn't me, I swear!"
"And now you lie? I'm out of here."
He walked away, leaving the girl crying in the sand. I felt a bit sorry for her, but did not dare go down to help her, or I would blow my cover. And after all these emotional moments, I didn't want to disturb her yet.
After a good five minutes of crying, she calmed down. She began walking back to her home, I assumed. When I coudn't see her anymore, I dropped down with a thud. I flipped open my phone, and looked at the - Sent Messages- folder.
