"It's ok to cry." he said as he walked past her. His boots clinging against the metal floor and ringing through the empty hall. The woman didn't move, her ivory hair, swayed slightly, and her ebony eyes simply gazed out into space. The two of them were an odd sight. A titan of a man, clad in fine Ebscont armor, enchanted with magic and had nano-machines to keep his body from ever aging. They some how failed to keep his hair intact, though he suspected that was vengeance of it's own kind, having lived for over 2 million years. His gate was strong, and from his armored hip hung two weapons, on the left there was a simple long sword, holstered in a large shield, on his right there was a pouch, see through that contained a small orb of light. The armor in design was simple, no fancy embroidery of extra metal was used. It was mostly ceramic, only using metal for the technical reasons. His eyes were the same solid ebony color as the girls, but they seemed… more defined, if that was possible.
The girl on the other hand, fair skin, young, no older than 20, her rags for clothes caked in dried blood and salty tears, a full three heads shorter than the man, her hair mangled and matted with mud. Despite this, her body had no wounds, she showed no sign of mental instability and she held in her hand a single twig, two leaves on it, vibrant with life even though the twig itself seemed ancient.
For what seemed like hours neither figure moved, standing still watching the stars, watching them move past them, after all they were in an elevator, and that elevator was taking them to the space station Deus Ex Machina. In a soft, hoarse voice, the girl spoke. "No… it's not ok. I betrayed every living thing on that planet, every friend I ever had, my family, my lover, my rival, my pets, everything. If I cry now, if I lose my cool and make an irresponsible wish, that would mean that everything I did would be for naught." There was not love, no remorse in the girls voice, just cold hard facts and a slight malaise at the man who had convinced her that what she was doing was right. The man, mused over this and shrugged, an old habit of his as he turned around and walked to the other end of the hall. There was an announcement on the PA system by an automated voice that they were arriving at the station.
The two of them walked through the station, not a world was said, automated systems running, keeping everything intact, safe, and locked away from the rest of the universe. As they walked the man didn't pay particular attention the the girl, but she was eyeing him keenly, having doubts, this strange place, this was above the clouds but it wasn't heaven, it was made of something scarce on Ukial, metal, and there were so many of the ancient machines running here, what exactly was this place anyway. Then the man walked through a solid wall, and she stopped right before running into it, and looked around, panicking a bit. She then poked the wall, but found that her finger didn't touch it at all. She tried pushing her hand into the wall and found it could go through when a cold icy grip clapped around her wrist and the fear and terror she had hoped to avoid came rushing back into her. She didn't struggle, she knew too well that struggle was not a good idea.
As she was yanked through the wall the bright lights of the hall vanish and small blinking blue lights were present here and there, the floor was a large plate of glass it seemed and there were statues, stone statues all around the room. All of them had kind smiles on their faces, but they were pitying and some places there were traces of a statue that had been destroyed. The man dragged her to the center of the room and latched her into something. Some kind of box like thing. There was no top or bottom but it was defiantly a box of some kind. She looked around and saw that there were magical runes all around the floor, and on the walls there was the longest enchantment she had ever seen. It wrapped all around the room, covering all four walls? No… this room was more like a cylinder… like an ancient spell shell for the magical guns they had on the planets surface. Looking up the girl nearly passed out.
On the ceiling of the room there was a giant spike above her, covered in what looked like blood from thousands of other people. Apt people, those who could tune the weapon. Then the room lit up as the man began doing something on some kind of floating pad of some kind. There wasn't much time, but one thing caught the girls ebony eyes. And that was, above the spike there was a box, just like hers, except it was encased in what looked like ice magic, a high tier spell at that. The girl looked just like her, in fact it could have been her if she looked nicer, got cleaned up, her hair combed out, that kind of thing. She had to know. But the man, he ignored her questions, and pleas. He simply seemed more frantic now than before, he was moving his fingers rather fast across the surface of that strange see through board. The girl thought for a second then decided. This wasn't for her. Closing her eyes, she clapped her hands twice in prayer, making the man look up at her in horror.
One of the leaves fell from the twig the girl was carrying and the man tapped the floating pad a few times and it vanished. He looked at his feet and felt the cold slowly crawling up his body. It was a petrification spell, one of the few things that would be able to stop him with the armor on, even without it, petrification spells were still one of the only things that he was susceptible to. Everyone was, everyone but the girl who had cast it on him. With a sigh he opened the pouch and tossed the orb of light at the girls feet and whispered a word, opening her bindings and letting her escape. The last thing he ever did was smile gently, with pity at the new goddess, who didn't even know her fate.
The girl then nodded with conviction and clapped her hands together and made her last wish, and the girl in the ice was freed and she floated down slowly. Much to the battered girls surpass the girl in the ice wasn't disoriented or weak from being locked in ice magic like one should be. Instead this girl had a distinct sense of… purpose and all around her those small see through blue panels popped up and strange script ran across them, much faster than when the man was doing whatever he was doing.
In a voice that the girl could have sworn was her own the other girl spoke. "You, you've really messed things up for them… and I thank you for that. I've been trapped in this case for over 2 million years. Well… I have been here for 2 million years but my main body is still on that planet, it's been there for… well. Lets just say it's something beyond your understanding of the universe can grasp. As a reward for freeing me I'm giving you access rights to all files and programs here on this station. Don't worry too much, they will teach you everything you need to know. Meanwhile, could you strap me into the Deus Ex Machina core, it's what you were in just a second ago. I will explain something to you right now, and let me be perfectly clear. You, are now a Goddess. You can do anything you want. You don't need the prayers or wishes any more, but there is one thing, that I, Ragnarok, am preventing you from doing, and that is putting me back on ice. Put me back and I swear I will kill every last one of you, in every reality, every possible time line, and every time loop."
As she finished the girl didn't quite understand what was going on but helped Ragnarok into straps she was just in and hadn't stepped back more than a few feet before the spike on the ceiling impaled Ragnarok, splattering blood everywhere and then a been shot down at the planet. The girl instantly knew, that it was all over if that beam hit the planet, everything would end, so she didn't know how she did it, but she closed her eyes and when she opened them again in her hand there was the twig, a single leaf still on it and the girl was encased in ice. But this time, that simple visage, that form terrified her for reasons beyond her understanding. So the girl strapped her self back into the thing and clapped her hands twice in prayer and the machine activated. The pain was excruciating but then… then she felt the change in her physical body. She saw two different worlds now, her eyes had changed, one was the ebony eye it had always been, but the other, had turned to an amber color and the pupil and iris were forming. She could now read, the world wasn't just numbers and shapes now, it had color, smell, an image. And as she felt her soul being drawn from her cold dead body she smiled knowing that she had prevented the Gate from opening. What gate, where it lead, she did not know but it had been stopped. And the satellite cannon fired this shot down to the surface of the planet and a new cycle, one where there was finally a chance for change began.
- Title: The Gate (Possible intro)
- Artist: v-v
- Description: This is a possible intro to a book I'm thinking of writing, it's the second in it's series, the first is Tower of the Skies (which I don't have anything for that online at the moment). This involves magic, technology, and sixth sense/souls as themes. Thoughts and comments would be appreciated.
