• CHOSEN BY THE MOON

I stood in front of what seemed like the last thing I would see.

The black metal door itself appeared as the gateway to my death. Which it very well could be. For I was about to face my darkest enemy. The one man who had kidnapped my friends and murdered my guardian, Embarr. The dark sorcerer, Dusk.

The smell of blood from my allies who believed that the power light would save the world, hit my nose and sent shivers down my spine.

I heard the clashing of swords, the explosions from magic spells, the battle cries of my followers and evil henchmen, and my own heart beating and echoing in my head.

My long, dark-brown hair was hidden under the hood of my white robe that covered my silver dress, revealing only my light apricot face, the tips of my fingers through the arm holes, and the bottom of my white slip-on shoes.

"I can't do this." I whispered as I clenched my left hand into a fist.

I suddenly felt someone slip their hand onto it. I turned my head and found my love Jake, looking at me. His emerald-green eyes pinned into my sapphire-blue eyes.

His black hair was stained with dirt and blood from the enemy. His face was sweaty from the struggle to get past the main battlefield.

Though me and Lady Miracle, the previous Moon Guardian, tried our best to return Jake to his true form after Dusk transformed him into a demon, the magic on him was too strong. Although he no longer had the appearance of a wolf-like creature, with no tail, ears, muzzle, and four legs, the green rings that had been on his forehead and shoulders remained.

Even so, the fire that burned in his eyes was still there. It fueled his courage, his determination, and his strength. All used for one purpose. To protect me.

"Yes you can Zoey. I believe in you and I'll stand by you every step of the way," Jake reassured. He placed his free hand on my right shoulder and pulled me close to him.

His decorative and regal blue outfit fitted with light silver armor, black boots, broad metal epaulets, and a sheath that held a silver sword, gave him the appearance of a prince, and he was honored to wear such attire.

"I made a promise to you, remember? I promised you that I would protect you and I would be there for you 'till the very end," Jake told me.

"Yes, I do remember. You made that promise three years ago, on my thirteenth birthday."

"And you know that we need to fulfill The Angel's Prophecy," Jake urged on.

I couldn't help but giggle a little at what he said. "How could I forget that? It's pretty much what got us in this mess in the first place."

"I guess you're right, but we also need to be serious about it."

I nodded in approval and turned towards the metal door once more, feeling more confident.

"You ready?" Jake asked as he held my hand.

"Yes," I replied, "This is for Embarr, my parents, and the world."

Together, Jake and I recited The Angel's Prophecy.

"Before there is peace, Fire must make a sacrifice, and Darkness and Light must dispel the time of Sunset."

With that, I casted a sphere of light in my other hand and slammed it into the door, opening it with tremendous force.

We walked in with courage, but also keeping our guard on.

The room was pitch dark, which made me suspicious. When we had entered the room all the way through the large door, it slammed behind us like a sonic boom. My heart skipped a beat at the sound of my friends' voices vanishing in an instant.

Then, the evil laugh started. As the laughing continued for a few more seconds, candles all around the room lit. But, there was no sign of Dusk.

Jake drew his sword from his sheath and stood in front of me. "Show yourself coward!" He demanded.

The laughing stopped, followed by a voice. "Very well."

A cloud of darkness formed on the tiled floor, and when it took shape and the smoke vanished, I gasped.

It was Dusk, with his black hair, pale skin, tall body, and dark robe. But, that's not what made my stomach flip. No, what made my body tense up and my heart race was what stood next to the dark sorcerer; A ghostly white fox with two beautiful tails, amber eyes, and blue flames surrounding its body.

"Before you can face me, you must defeat my highest henchman." Dusk said as he looked down on the the creature.

Tears fell down my eyes as I dropped to my knees. "Embarr."…
