The pair found a small cafe on the corner, after about an hour. It wouldn't usually take so long, but the girls didn't feel comfortable eating so soon, the paranoia made them both crazy and nervous. Thats what happens when you've been targeted by men you usually can't see unless its too late, usually couldn't kill until they were too close. Not like Ashli and Reian didn't do some of the chasing themselves, but they always knew someone was there, watching them.
Cozy smells, like coffee and cinnamon, hovered in the building, making it seem homey. Ashli went up to the counter, ordering waters and maybe something to eat for both of them. Rei went and sat down, looking up at the small TV in the corner of the room. The news was on, of course...Reian noticed her hands still shaking, and she flinched when the channel was interrupted for some urgent, recent news mentioning a man murdered only an hour or so ago. Nothing had been done to the body after the death, and the weapon had not been found. The bullet had left it's mark anyways, but the girls always took the gun.
"Rei...?" Her friend's voice interrupted her panicked thoughts and she smiled gratefully at the water and little cup of soup she hadn't realized was in front of her. "Stop acting so jumpy..." Ashli said, even though she was shaking just slightly less.
Sipping the soup from her spoon, it burned but she didn't care. It helped ward away the other thoughts. After a moment, she took a glance around, and whimpered quietly. "Ashli! We have to go...Now..."
"Why?" Her friend's whisper was panicked now, and she noticed where Rei was looking. A somewhat-attractive young man in a black jacket and black pants. He was smiling, talking to the waitress. He had an insignia on his jacket, the right side of his chest. It was a silver star with a green and gold snake coiled around it, and Reian fought the urge to bolt. Her locket was a silver star, with a cross engraved in the center.
"Just keep eating, please. I don't want to go hungry again...We didn't eat yesterday because of them...I'll pay and then we can leave, just wait a bit." Ash's nonchalant attitude agitated her. The waitress that'd been talking to the man walked over to their table, and smiled sweet. "That kind gentleman would like to pay for your meals, if you haven't already." Her voice was nice and kind, but that didn't stop the girls from nearly jumping out of their seats and out the door.
"Actually," Reian looked over at the man, smiling and speaking to the waitress with an off-kind attitude. It was angry and sarcastic, not to mention trembling, and didn't fit with her smile. "you know what? Tell him he can gladly pay for all it Tell him I said so. Please." She sipped her soup again, and saw the suprised look on the woman's face. She walked away and told the 'gentleman', who started exchanging words with her again.
The waitress walked back to the two friends, trying to keep her smile. "He said he'll do just that," She said, referring to him paying," and he also says he'd like to speak to you before he leaves, which is soon. When your done eating, he'd like you to meet with him outisde."
Giving a smile right back, Ashli nodded. "Alrighty! Let 'im know we're almost done, and we'd be glad to meet outside!" She sounded too happy, but the waitress went and told the stranger anyways, which resulted in him thanking her, slipping the girls a smile and a wink, then going outside. The girls did finish eating, which didn't take that long, as promised. There was only one way out of the cafe, and Ashli and Reian held hands leaving.
Leaning against a car was the man, and as the girls ignored him and walked past, he ignored them and stayed. Until they turned the corner. If someone had talked to the waitress, the only person watching, they would've known that the next death wasn't senseless murder. it was, in fact, self defense. For that man, before following after the girls, had dug around inside his jacket before pulling out a shining handgun.
After the stranger was out of site, the girls started running. There were heavier footfalls behind them, which made Ashli and Rei speed up. An odd turn led to one of those creepy deserted streets, lined with alleys, and both friends shuddered. The guy was practically within hitting distance before they started running again, and they turned to a small allyway, planning on going into one of the buildings it passed.
Panicking even more, they realized that this was one of those stupid things, with the only way of escape being that annoying chain-link in your way. With no time to scale it, they looked at eachother and Ashli backed up against the fence, Rei hiding behind a low wall, part of an old building they tore down.
Following them was easy, it's not like they were anywhere loud. Not a car passed the place as they'd run through the place, so chances were none where going to pass by anytime soon. He rounded the corner and saw one girl up against the fence. She had a bare neck, he noticed, and got agitated. Holding up the gun, he shouted agrily. "Where's the other one!? God Dammit, where is she?" He asked, obviously furious.
"Where'd that 'gentleman s**t go? Aren't you supposed to be nice?" Ashli tried to keep up a conversation, keep him stalled while Reian loaded the gun. It'd be easier if the poor girl was calm, her hands were shaking so bad she could hardly slide the cartridge in.
"Shut the Hell up! Where is she!?" He was yelling and Ashli was frightened, being unarmed and held at gunpiont were two things that she couldn't fathom. The man took a step closer, and right then Rei stood up from her hiding place, pulling the trigger on her gun as he had just started to turn his head.
The waitress didn't ask any questions, she merely wlecomed the girls she'd seen yesterday. Noticing how they acted, she got them the same thing as yesterday, soup for the girl with brown hair, a samdwich for the black haired one, and waters for the both of them. They looked worse than before, but again, she didn't press, and just commented on how gorgeous the silver locket was. The reaction she got suprised her, but she thought about the gun she'd seen on the man the day before, and shrugged off the fact the girl with brown hair didn't respond until she had to yell at the other, who was starting to curse obscenely at the waitress. The news came on, and those two girls smiled reassuringly at eachother, and the waitress guessed it was because there weren't any bodies found today, which she took as a sign that the killer had moved on. She was right, of course, about why they smiled, but wrong as well. They were only smiling because no body had been found.
